Can You Tell Me How to Get...How to Get to Avenue Q?

Last night I saw the musical Avenue Q for the first time, and I have to say I enjoyed it more than I expected to. I mean, I thought I would find it amusing, but I kind of expected it to be a lot more gimmicky, using the novelty of cursing puppets as a crutch. And while it does do the "R-rated Sesame Street" thing quite well, it also kind of transcends that to become an entertaining musical in its own right. The characters, both human and puppet, were interesting, and it had a boatload of catchy, clever songs. I was also very impressed with the cast members. They had to have all the singing and dancing talent of normal musical performers, PLUS they had to be skilled puppeteers. That skill came across the best in some parts when an actor would be doing voices for multiple puppets in the same scene. It was pretty amazing that they could keep all that straight. Anyway, if you're a fan of musicals, Avenue Q is certainly worth a look.
