For Those About to Play Rock Band, We Salute You

So I got the Rock Band game over the holidays, and I have to say, I haven't had this much fun with a music game since the original Guitar Hero. For the most part, I've enjoyed the Guitar Hero sequels, but a lot of times it felt like they were going more for incredibly hard guitar solos instead of overall fun factor. With the first Guitar Hero, I enjoyed playing the songs over and over, gradually conquering them at ever-higher difficulty levels, because they were just plain fun to play. With some of the songs on the sequels, practicing felt more like a chore, and I gave up on trying to beat those songs. But now it seems the fun factor is back with Rock Band. It has a terrific songlist--with an aggressive schedule of downloadable content to boot--and they've upped the level of personalization considerably. The sense of teamwork you get from beating a song with your friends playing all the parts really adds a lot of fun, and the World Tour mode has a lot of nice touches (even if it can get repetitive at times). Anyway, I feel like I'm getting hooked on a music game all over again. And I'm just hoping the reports of equipment failure have been exaggerated, because we just got our jet, and it's time to tour Europe, baby!
