This Is Gonna Get Kinda Weird.

I guess it's been getting a fair amount of attention already, but if you haven't seen Weird Al's latest video yet, you must go peep it now: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=1194164636&n=2

It's called "White & Nerdy," and it's a parody of Chamillionaire's song "Ridin' (Dirty)." I have to say I wasn't all that familiar with the original song (or even who Chamillionaire is), but Weird Al's parody is fantastic regardless--probably his funniest video since "Fat."

The full album from Weird Al--"Straight Outta Lynwood"--has a lot of other great stuff on it, too. He has parodies of Green Day, Usher and Taylor Hicks as well as style parodies (where he's emulating an artist's general sound more than parodying a specific song) of the Beach Boys, Cake and the Sparks. Weird Al even took a song I thought was unparodyable (R. Kelly's "Stuck in the Closet," because the original itself is so damn ridiculous) and did a hilarious take on it. He strikes just the right notes, mocking R. Kelly's whining overdramatization of the most mundane details.

Well, I won't gush any more over Al's genius. I've just always had a soft spot for him since his album "In 3-D" was the first music I ever bought with my own money. But it sounds like he's enjoying some success with his latest release, because both the single and album cracked the Billboard Top 10, a first for Al in both cases. Good for him.
