"Even if we happen to get caught up in substance abuse, spirituality usually does kick in, helping us realize that we can't numb ourselves to life. If we go off track, getting back on is imperative, as it means that we've learned. If we haven't learned, we might very well go back Home and choose to return in another life to rectify what we didn't complete in this one(or any in which we didn't face life head-on). We must remember that no substance can take away life's tragedies or disappointments because we always have to come down and face them eventually. If we take drugs to get up, go to bed, or get through the day, we become like a robot trying to smother pain, grief, or disappointment-which are all the things we learn from. We simply can't perfect in a state of anesthesia."
