Dear Yuletide Writer,
Hello! Thank you so much for offering one of these fandoms! I can't wait to see what you come up with. To get it out of the way, I'm
The_Plaid_Slytherin on the AO3.
My fic taste runs toward the happy, fluffy, romantic, and plotty, so anything on that end of the spectrum would be great. I'm just not looking for really dark or hopeless stuff - canon tone and themes are fine but I would prefer not to receive something with character death, infidelity, rape/non-con, or graphic violence. I like happy endings, even if we encounter a little angst and peril along the way.
Some more of what I really love: romance (or friendship) between equal partners with different strengths and weaknesses, holiday stories (Christmas, in an appropriate fandom), hurt/comfort, family fic, canon extension, and canon-set AUs (i.e., 'what if' as opposed to 'in space!').
And now for some specifics...
Caprica (TV) (Sam Adama)
The world of the Twelve Colonies is such a rich one to play in. I'm a huge fan of the Adama family, especially Sam. One of my favorite plot elements is the Ha'la'tha and Sam's role in it, so I'd love to see something dealing with that in any capacity. Another thing that would be great is something dealing with Sam's Tauron heritage and his relationship with his family. It seems like their Christmas analogue is Solstice. What was that like? I wish we'd gotten to see more of his relationship with Larry, or his relationship with Bill and how that differed from the one he had with Willie. Did the Adamas do anything differently this time around? Did Sam still lead Bill astray a little? What kind of future did Sam have after what we see in the series?
Deadwood (Al Swearengen & Jack Langrishe)
This series is a new love for me, but I've fallen hard for Al and Jack (and Al/Jack). They're both such fascinating, layered characters and they're very well-matched. I love how Al keeps trying resolutely not to care about the welfare of the other citizens of Deadwood, but he can't help but be worn down. His practical, reluctant leadership combined with Jack's over-the-top-ness is a favorite character-type pairing of mine and I shipped them right away. I just wish we'd gotten to see more of their interactions before the show was canceled - there are so many open ends about the future of the town and the theater. (Some things that really jump out at me that I'd love to see explored: Al's statement that he doesn't go to plays and Al at the end of 'Amateur Night.' How would Jack react to those?) I'd love to see anything that develops their relationship further as they continue to go about their business in town. I'm also interested in their backstory, which could be a rich opportunity for fic. How did they meet? What happened in Virginia City? How does this unlikely pair work? I also love the rest of the ensemble cast, so whoever you'd like to have pop in would be great. And if you wanted to do something with Christmas themes, I would love that! I can't imagine Jack doesn't have an appreciation for the holidays, even if Al probably ignores them.
Agatha Christie's Poirot (TV) (Arthur Hastings & Hercule Poirot)
This show is an old favorite, but this is the first time I've considered it for Yuletide. I've had fun revisiting the show and enjoying Poirot/Hastings again! I love mysteries and the period setting, and the dynamic between these two is one of my favorite ones to ship. I love how well they work together despite being opposites and I love it when they do work together - I love when Hastings gets to be right, make himself useful, or save the day. I would love a mystery for this fandom (like a cozy winter country house mystery!), but I also realize such a request might be super intimidating, so something that just focuses on the relationship would be lovely, too. I particularly love the element of travel in the series, so if you have a favorite location you'd like to write about, I would love to see it. It would be nice to see these two getting to enjoy a holiday, with or without murder!
