(no subject)
So here are some micro-insights into my daily life.
Today I got free cereal as a reward for voting for my favorite cereal. It was hard to choose between Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms. CTC won. Then I went around the corner to Taco Bell (it resides in the basement of the Litchfield Towers, you see) and I ordered a taco and paid for a taco - but I received TWO tacos. Dude!
I used my epic logic today to figure something out. I can take one of three buses from Oakland back to my apartment. This means I can also take one from my apartment to Oakland. I have been relying on one singular bus for over a month now to get me to campus. I was being dumb but now all my brain nerves are stimulated by notebooks and quizzes and learning. No more scurrying down to Ellsworth Ave every morning for meee.
I got my septum pierced in Clarion. I didn't want to pick a random shop in Pittsburgh because I already know that I trust Studio XIII since the guy there did my labret. The septum ring is easy to flip inside the nostrils when I go to work. It is kind of a pain in the ass to clean, especially when I have to do it in public bathrooms because my work/class schedule required me to be on campus for no less than eleven hours today. I can blow soap bubbles out of my nose. My parents don't know about my septum. Please don't tell them.
I went to my first Yinzling [jɪnzliŋ] meeting today. This is a linguistics club. Dialectologists will tell you that people in Pittsburgh tend to say "yinz" [jɪnz] in place of "you guys." So that's where the name comes from. It seems like everyone at Pitt has more than one major, one minor. They all have double majors, or double minors, or multiple certificates, etc.. Right now I'm an officially declared Spanish [spmajor and linguistics minor. I want to be a linguistics major quite badly, but I'm enrolled in an intro course. I've dedicated too much time to Spanish to make it into my minor. But if I pull off a double major and graduate in 2013, I totally will. It will be better for me because my options with a Spanish degree are either translating or getting a teaching certificate. My options with a linguistics degree are probably to go to grad school, which is an idea I kind of adore. Every time I learn something about linguistics, I think of ways I would teach it to other people. I think this is an indicator that I'm a natural teacher, and that I should seriously consider being a professor, even if it does mean I will have to write a pain in the ass dissertation.
