I haven't edited anything out of this for fear that people may be offended.
Politics:
I am liberal, which, contrary to the beliefs of some, is not synonymous with evil. I believe that all humans should have equal rights regardless of their background/identity, given that they haven't done something grossly illegal to forfeit some of those rights, within reason, or course. Everyone should be able to marry, and those who are completely upset by this for the sake of the sanctity of marriage should, instead of targeting the LGBT community, should make it harder to get divorced, since you know that 50 percent of our hetero couples do that and no one seems to mind. I am pro-choice and believe that without this fundamental right, not only would we have many neglected humans but we'd have a lot of injured women who were desperate enough to do it on their own. I think it's sad that I live in a country where a woman is not safe when she chooses to have an abortion for whatever reason due to extremists who would rather shorten the lives already living people for the sake of protecting hypothetical people. I do not support Israel's heinous acts against the Palestinians, and I think that the United States is encouraging them to colonize by the same rape and pillage techniques we used on the Native Americans. I agree with stem cell research. I think that the United States needs to do more for their people. I think that religion has no place in politics, since we are not a theology, and that for people to say "we only speak English" is bigoted. As a country, we are a cultural melting pot, and we should be teaching our children to be multi-lingual like many other countries already do. I think gays should be able to adopt children, gay men should be able to donate blood and being LGBT is not a choice -- homophobia is. I support my president, and I think it will take more than the time he has been given to clean up the mess Bush made. Above all, I think that people should research what they stand for instead of screaming clips from Fox News.
Religion:
Despite being raised in a religious household, I don't consider myself religious. I would say that I am spiritually-minded. I believe in a higher power but not necessarily the Christian God. I believe that the Bible is a great piece of literature and has universal concepts that can help guide people to whatever path is good for them, but it is not the law of the land. Man is flawed in nature, and to believe that a book could be written by man and fueled by a god without biases is illogical. I consider myself to be Agnostic, in that I believe in a higher power, but I'm not sure what it is. I believe that everything happens for a reason, even the horrible things, and I do not believe in coincidence. I have my own connections to other spiritual ideologies and agree with a lot of Buddhism, Thelema, Astrology and I practice Tarot. For this reason, I consider myself to be somewhat of a spiritual clusterfuck, but it works for me. I believe that spirituality is a person thing. And really, I do believe in Karma, though it doesn't act as swiftly or in the ways we think it should. It isn't our place to decide that, though. There are a lot of things we shouldn't try to decide for people and whether or not they are going to the hypothetical afterlife is one of them. We shouldn't try to force our religions onto other people. I think we should just live by common courtesy (i.e. - Lets not kill each other).
Which leads me to...
General:
As I said, I believe in common courtesy. I don't believe in the Golden Rule because if someone punches me in the face, I'm not going to love them. I'm going to take care of myself and sever that connection because it isn't healthy. But I am polite and courteous to strangers (within reason, of course). I help people every day as it comes to me. I believe that gender is a product of society, and we perpetuate gender roles. There is nothing in our DNA that says girls must like pink and boys blue; it is culture that decides what is masculine and what is feminine. I believe in the power of love. I know now that everyone will hurt me in life, but the ones worth keeping around fix it. I don't believe that we should have to settle for less than what we deserve. I have beat the odds of nearly all expectations placed on me by society. I was an impoverished, pregnant teenager but did well in school, got a degree and have a fruitful full-time career. I believe that the key to changing your life is you, but remembering that there are things that are out of your control is important, too.
