Once again, I've put off posting for far too long. I have been reading faithfully, and have somehow been sucked into reading far too much Supernatural fic (and related RPS). Some of it's been interesting enough that I sent it to my poor friend in Boston, who's never quite forgiven me for making him read 'Things to do in Orlando when you're Dead'. If you can't traumatize your friends, who can you traumatize?
Well actually, my co-workers :D. Work's been crazy with the mixed messages lately. Like everywhere, we're getting hit a bit by slow-down, and so they let all of the contract workers (except my newest minion) go. There's absolutely nothing on my 'ready to be analyzed' bench at any given time, and we can handle all the rush work the minute it arrives, for the first time in over a year. Which is nice, except the reason for that isn't that we have no work, it's that they let half of the prep workers go and the sample preparation group can't come anywhere near covering the workload. We have scheduled overtime shifts for the next two weekends, *because* they can't keep up with it. The prep group leader and I just keep looking at each other thinking, 'how exactly is this having no work again?'. Somehow, I also have to make time to do a full proof that every client-specific, off the wall, random prep we do, for every element we might possibly run, works perfectly. Up to this point, we've only done this for the preps/elements that we tell the client work perfectly (everything else gets sent with a 'this is only an approximation', 'you picked a very bad way to guess at the element you wanted', 'this sample made no sense with anything we might possibly do with it', 'you're insane, why did you send us *teeth*' note). And, our Quality management has said neither my supervisor nor I am allowed to do this incredibly long and complex process. We have to delegate (to the people who are already overworked, sick and frustrated). I did get the mechanical minion to set up something that I've been trying to make time for for the past year though, so yay delegation.
On my kitchen table, there is a whatchamacallit. Apparently, that is the actual name of this bright, stuffed, rattle-y, mirror-ed toy. I'm going to go down to the Brother's house next weekend for my nephew's baby shower next weekend. I have a nephew now - he was born on Boxing Day, so he's a little over a month old, and apparently never sleeps. I'm hoping he'll be a little less groggy and confused-looking than he was when we met the day after he was born.
I was hoping to come home from the store today with things to watch, but our HMV was sorely lacking in season 1 Supernatural. They had season 2, but I can get it for about 20$ less on amazon, so I guess I will buy both off of amazon and see if I'm still interested in the rest by the time I'm finished (I had to watch half of the shows on the TV with my hands over my eyes - and then the shift rotation got me and I missed too many to keep watching). That should keep me entertained until the snow goes away in a few months hopefully. I'm hoping to huddle in here in the warmth and not leave until then (stupid work, making me go out in the cold).
