Hello.
So, Place has a manager.
His name is Calum Marsh.
He's a good guy.
Hooray for Place.
Hooray for Calum.
Here is his blog:
http://mockingmusic.blogspot.com/ Enough of the simple stuff. Yeah, what this means is that Place can stop exclusively doing shows that they have put on. We can now open for bigger names, play to larger and newer crowds. No more will all our friends be expected to go to the shows in order to boost the numbers. Basically, somebody that is quickly becoming Ottawa's next Shawn Scallen has taken a chance on us, and hopefully it will play out well.
In other news, I'm helping
andiras organize a charity show on October 11th at Babylon. It's going okay, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding acts that will play. I have two of the three, I just need a good headliner that is willing to play a Wednesday show and that will draw a crowd.
I'm sure it will all work out. It usually does. I've got to get moving and step it up a notch to get those acts. Damned time, moves too fast.
And while I don't usually use this thing as a blog very often, I figured I would tell people a couple of my opions of my weekend at Osheaga.
Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth made everything worthwhile. I also really enjoyed the Montreal band Think of Life.
What I can't believe is how strong a reaction Wolf Parade got from a number of people. Spencer Krug's Roland Jupiter didn't work. He spent literally about 20 minutes of their 45 minute set fooling around with the equipment to try and get a better sound. The exact same thing happened at the Ottawa show, and also with Sunset Rubdown at Zaphod's.
Everybody who has seen a Place show where our equipment has stopped working knows that it doesn't REALLY make that much of a difference to the over all sound. You just have to keep on going and hope for the best show you can do under the circumstances. Either that, or get a new goddamn Jupiter.
