Worst. Birthday. Ever.

I got robbed.

I came home last night to find that my front door had been jimmied open. The house was in a slightly greater state of disarray than I usually keep it, and several desk drawers and kitchen cabinets (?) were left open. After a quick search, I determined that the only things missing were my laptop, my digital camera, and about $100 in cash from Dan's room.

It could have been a lot worse, actually. Apparently they never made it to my room, because if they had they would have found a TV, DVD player, two SLR cameras, two saxophones, two guitars, $300 in travelers checks, and about $400 in cash (granted, it's in at least six different currencies, but still). Most of which was clearly out in the open. So it could have been worse.

Actually, what I'm most pissed about is the loss of the pictures on the camera and the computer. I lost pics from London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Scotland, two trips to the Bahamas, and a trip to the Christmas tree farm with my family. So it goes, I guess.

All in all, I'm okay. I wasn't home when it happened, nor were they still there when I got home. They could have taken a lot more, and the things they did take can be pretty easily replaced. Dan's dad came over and fixed the door so it's probably better than it was before, so I'm not really worried about that. This is just one of those things that, however shitty it is, just happens sometimes. It sucks, but you deal.

But this is also the sort of thing that will eventually drive me to drink.
