[Barton is indeed minding her own business at the park, playing fetch with a blue German Shepard. Yep, blue.

She does not like having her personal space suddenly invaded.] What.

[Kumatora does not seem particularly thrown by the color. She'll even smile at it if it notices her.]

What's your dog's name?

Oh. Uh, it's Buster. Don't worry, he's real friendly. [Buster does look excited to see someone new, and is demanding attention.]

[Kumatora is happy to give it. She starts petting him and scratching him behind the ears.]

Is he your friend from home, or did you meet him here?

Met him here. Someone... Well, believe it or not, someone here made him with magic. He's a good dog, though.

Made him with magic? You mean, like, "poof"--just out of thin air?

Kinda. She used energy and some kinda magic from her world... I'd never heard of it. Anyway... that's why he's blue. But I don't really mind.

I wouldn't. I think it's a good color.

Yeah, 's not bad. Green's my favorite but I can live with blue. 'N this way, I got away without having to buy one. Unless you're stealing, money ain't easy to come by in this town when they think you're a kid. And you're a girl. [She frowns a little.]

I don't get what's so great about money, anyways. I don't anybody needs it.

I dunno. I can see why people need it, I just hate who people think I can't work for it. I'm more than capable of doing work. Bein' a girl's got nothin' to do with that.

They don't let you work because you're a girl? That's stupid.

That's really stupid. What kinda crap are they tryin' to pull?

Oh, I agree all the way. Back home I just dressed as a boy to get away with it. Here, all the drones... 's like they know no matter what. It sucks.

That still sounds dumb. You shouldn't hafta pretend.

No, but at least it worked for me. If they ever noticed I was a girl back home, they never said anythin'. But it's just like here. People think women should be getting married, having kids and keepin' care of a house. But my family didn't really see it that way, I guess.

So why do they think everyone's gotta do the same thing? I don't get it.
