In this cold, lonely world, we are constantly searching--searching for that one person or group of people to associate ourselves with. A rigorous process we go through, only to put one toe out of line and loose it all. We, as humans, make mistakes. We are petty, superficial, and clumsy. We lack the grace and loyalty that resides in our "wild" counterparts. When we finally do find that special someone or someones, and look into their eyes, peer into their souls, we often see the very things we don’t want to become.
We prevail, we walk on. We run against the wind but in vain. Our small and insignificant pursuits are nothing in the vast universe. When we finally accomplish what it is we've set out for, we are succeeded by greater and and more incredible achievements.
And so we continue with our lives, our pointless, lifeless lives. We have everything handed to us on Technology's plate. We are infants, defenseless without our scientific advancements. Our mommy, the computer, is ruled by a paycheck and a prayer.
And yet, it all seems so appealing. So worthwhile. So big. We worship those who have prevailed. We overlook their numerous and great flaws because they can do those things that we cannot. It's okay for Mark McGuire to have steroids coursing through his greedy, cheating veins. It's okay for Michael Jackson to be weird and creepy, as long as he still maintains that mystique that he is famous for. And, as long as Paris Hilton dresses like a slut and maintains her surgical looks and emptyheaddedness, she's still free to do what she pleases.
