Life is not fair...get used to it --Bill Gates

From the stage of infancy, we are taught that things are always fair. People (mostly) do what they say they're going to do, food comes in repetition at consistent times (for most people), and everything is equal for all siblings.

I was recently hit in the face with a financial brick. As some of you know, I work at the Indiana University School of Informatics. It pays pretty well--$8 per hour--and does the direct-deposit thingy into my bank account. However, they make you wait four weeks until they pay you for the first time. OK.

And so, I waited anxiously for the balance of my account to jump from $0.91 to $280.91, but Friday came and went with no payment.

I was not happy.

I went to the Poplar building, which handles Human Resources, and was then sent back to the Informatics building, where I was able to somehow get a check sent BACK to the Poplar building where I was supposed to be able to pick it up the following day. It turned out that, regardless of my punctuality in submitting my time sheets, somebody was lazy and didn't file my paperwork on time. Is this fair? No!!!

So, the following day, I went to a room across the hall from the room I had previously visited. I was then sent back across the hall where I wasn't treated very well...again. They didn;t seem to beleive me, and to add insult to injury they HAD NO RECORD OF MY CHECK.

A phone call later, I was told to visit Poplar again, meeting the same situation, except this time I apparently used a correct password because they eventually gave me my check.

And all was well...this time.
