If you are starting your journey in Kanto:
Bulbasaur - The Seed Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: Bulbasaur, it bears the seed of a plant on its back from birth. The seed slowly develops. Researchers are unsure whether to classify Bulbasaur as a plant or animal. Bulbasaur are extremely calm and are difficult to capture in the wild.
Charmander - The Lizard Pokémon
Pokédex Entry: Charmander. Obviously prefers hot places. When it rains, steam is said to spout from the tip of its tail. The fire on the tip of its tail is a measure of its life. If healthy, its tail burns intensely.
Squirtle - The Tiny Turtle Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: Squirtle. This Tiny Turtle Pokémon draws its long neck into its shell to launch incredible water attacks with amazing range and accuracy. The blasts can be quite powerful.
I can help you catch a Pikachu, as well... but they can be very difficult to work with. I'd advise against this one.
Pikachu - The Mouse Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: It stores electricity in the electric sacs on its cheeks. When it releases pent-up energy in a burst, the electric power is equal to a lightning bolt. Whenever Pikachu comes across something new, it blasts it with a jolt of electricity. If you come across a blackened berry, it's evidence that this Pokémon mistook the intensity of its charge.
I hear that the Pokémon breeder in Vermillion has been breeding Eevees as well. Chances are she'll give you an Eevee if you stop by there even if I don't intervene on your behalf.
Eevee - The Evolution Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: Its irregularly configured DNA is affected by its surroundings. It evolves if its environment changes.
If you are starting your journey in Johto:
Chikorita - The Leaf Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: It waves its leaf around to keep foes at bay. However, a sweet fragrance also wafts from the leaf, creating a friendly atmosphere that becalms the battlers.
Cyndaquil - The Fire Mouse Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: Cyndaquil protects itself by flaring up the flames on its back. The flames are vigorous if the Pokémon is angry. However, if it is tired, the flames sputter fitfully with incomplete combustion.
Totodile - The Big Jaw Pokémon
Pokédedx Entry: Despite the smallness of its body, Totodile's jaws are very powerful. While the Pokémon may think it is just playfully nipping, its bite has enough power to cause serious injury.
