Summary: White doesn't forget. For chiharu.
Warnings: None :)

White's five years old when she meets Black.

It's not the way she usually remembers it, running into him with his Tepig and wanting to use her for the TV show she's producing and then going on a whole adventure with Black, battling all sorts of trainers and Team Plasma and all that.

But it's only when they're five and she's battling with a Patrat that her dad had given her because, when she'd been five, she'd been dreaming of being a Pokemon Master.

Black stumbles upon her in the tall grass and blurts out, very loudly, "What are you doing here?" White turns around obviously, because she'd only been playing with the Patrat and pretending to be a Pokemon Master when she's only a kid.

She stutters and blushes and feels embarrassed that this boy had seen her. The embarrassment turns to anger and she says, "What are you doing here?"

"Nothing."

The boy, whom she doesn't know is Black yet, shrugs. He has a Pokemon with him too, a bright pink one with a flower pattern. White thinks that his being companions with such a girly Pokemon is mocking him, and she huffs and turns back to her dad's Patrat.

"Well keep on doing nothing then," she says, and continues playing with her Patrat like the boy isn't even there.

The boy stares.

Later, Black won't know that it'd been his seeing White for the first time, seeing a light girl with such fire pretend to battle with Pokemon so fiercely, that had driven him to want to be a Pokemon Trainer in the first place. Black, of course, doesn't remember, and has forgotten, and probably will always forget even if his Musha uses its strongest Dream Eater on him to try to get him to remember it.

But White remembers it, when they're fifteen and it's only a few years after they had defeated Team Plasma and they're just lying on the grass, staring at the sky. White won't admit it but her hand's in Black's and Black's hand is in his and he probably won't admit it either. But it's what there and it's what's happening.

White opens her mouth and she asks Black, "Do you remember when we first met?"

"Yeah," says Black, and White can almost hear the smile in his voice. "I walked in when you were shooting that advertisement for these things." He holds up his bag, where his Xtransceiver is dangling from the zipper.

"Yeah," agrees White.

She doesn't bother to correct him because Black will think he's right, anyways. Black is always right. Even when he's not, he thinks he is and even though it can be a bit irritating, it's one of those strange things that White likes about him, and she smiles.

--

When they're eighteen, White still remembers how they met but now she's seeing how they're leaving. Black has his hand in hers (again) and he's saying to her, "I'll see you soon," even though they both know he won't because Kanto is far, far away.

White manages to smile and she says, "I hope so." Black's not a part of her life, but she's a part of her, and having him go is having a part of her go.

"I'll miss you," says Black.

And of course White isn't surprised by this.

"I'll miss you too."

--

They're older, but White still feels like she's five sometimes, especially when she gets her letters from Black.

They're not very long, and they're not very personal, and they're not very in-depth--perhaps, after his leave, they've grown apart. They do have their own lives to run, after all. But White can't help herself from feeling a bit happy when she gets his letters in the mail.

Dear White, they usually start, and then there's a ^^ or a :D or something else dorky that Black likes to leave after his greetings.

Kanto's amazing. It's definitely nothing like Unova, because we have variety everywhere while Kanto's mostly rural with big cities here and there (like Celadon, which is huge) but it's also really nice to get away from the cities and stuff, anyways. Celadon's almost half the size of Castelia. Maybe even a third. If that tells you anything.

My Tep's somewhere around level 95 now, which is ridiculous!--you'd think it be to level 100 after all these years! Just kidding, sorta. I'm actually mostly trying to train a Charmander I caught here, though there hasn't been much progress. I think the Charmander's of Naughty nature. Just my luck, right?

Anyway, hoping you're having a fun time in Unova with your commercials and films and all that!

- Black

White feels the same adrenaline after reading Black's letter as she had when she had pretended to use her Dad's Patrat all those years ago, and thinks herself as a bit pathetic.

But she doesn't regret it all the same.

--

White writes back, of course, because it'd be mean not to. Anyway, it's hard for her to not respond to anything Black says, even if it's in writing. So she does.

She tries to make her letter longer and more personal and more in-depth, but she just can't because she doesn't know what to say anymore. It may be because Black and White communicate better face to face and in real life--not with words or touches or anything, just seeing. It also may be because White's not doing anything that'd interest Black, not really.

(Not like Black's doing anything that would interest her, though.)

Black's twenty-two years old when he comes back.

He looks older and he smells older, and by God he even sounds older even though he'd gone through puberty ages ago. But White supposes that that's what traveling does to you, and Black's been to Kanto and Johto all these years and through his letters White's learned that he's made new friends and caught new Pokemon and beat new Trainers, and she wonders if she's just old, if he's forgotten her.

But he smiles when he sees her and he says, "White," and White knows he hasn't.

She runs up and hugs him and he laughs and hugs her back, smelling a bit like the beach and the countryside and the city all the same. But White doesn't care, because this is what Black has always smelled like--he's always smelled like adventure, and he's always going on them, and he's always going to do new things and meet new people and catch new Pokemon and he's going to grow, he's going to grow up.

But White is too, and she's sure he'll never leave her.
