If a package I sent went missing, I would give them a partial refund even though I state it's not my fault if the package goes missing once it leaves my house in my sales terms. But if it seems like a buyer truly did not receive the package I sent them, I would feel obligated to give them at least a partial refund because even if it was not my fault it went missing I'd feel like I was partly to blame for not encouraging insurance/air mail. I ship via surface mail by default because shipping is so expensive here, but I hear surface mail goes missing a lot?

If I happened to have an extra of what they bought, I'd send them that for free shipping or partial shipping, depending on how expensive the shipping was.

Basically I'd feel like it was partly my fault for the package vanishing and would do something to help satisfy the buyer. But really I've never had a package go missing (yet *crosses fingers*) so I'm just speculating what I'd do if it happened ( ... )

my question was uber long, so i appreciate the long response!

i have the same mentality regarding fault being split equally when an item goes missing - it's the fairest way isn't it?

It's fairest, and would hopefully satisfy the buyer. I would just feel like a terrible person if I did not issue some sort of refund/replacement because not only would they be missing an item they were hoping for, but they would also be out x amount of dollars. A double whammy they do not deserve because the postal system lost their package! So I would help them as much as possible because I'd appreciate if a seller did something similar for me :3

As a buyer, there have been several times where I was in a blind panic about stuff being lost forever in the post, and upon PM'ing the seller I found that they'd either had it returned or had sent it weeks later than they told me they had. The longest wait I had was when I paid on the 6th November, and eventually recieved my package on the 31st January. ):

Usually I just PM telling them the parcel hasn't arrived yet, and ask if they can remember when they shipped it out. :3 I wouldn't expect a refund for a lost item, but if the seller offered I would accept. It depends how much it was for, really. x3

i had an item arrive two months after payment, and was majorly surprised as i already gave up hope on it. i totally understand the ): there!

I only have one package I bought from the comm that went missing, and this was about 10 months ago. The user disappeared and never replied to me...so I guess that case isn't going to get fixed anymore. :< There is one more I am waiting on for months now, with *still* some slight hope that it will arrive. Crossing fingers! I know it's definitely not the seller's fault, especially not when they seem to be around for a while now. If they offer or agree to help with a refund or replacement then that's really great, otherwise then it's my fault for not asking for insurance ( ... )

heh, no you were most certainly not 'demanding'! i have had so many transactions with you, it was the least i could do, plus the charm wasn't particularly pricey so it was no problem.

i was just wondering, if every seller enforced strictly their 'out of hands, out of life' clauses, then it would be a very seller-skewered scene, which may not be fair to the buyers. but on the other hand, any buyer can easily declare that nothing arrived when it actually did...so it's really a trust issue here, and a tricky balance to strike.

I think you could show receipts as proof that things were sent, just to make sure that the buyer -knows- you did send it. I think Paypal works that way! My problem with this is that my POs never give receipts for anything. :<

For buyers claiming that the things never arrived when they did...I just think that those wrong doings will go back to them eventually, haha. XD I guess there is no way to tell if they are telling the truth with standard shipping methods, sadly.

After having a few issues with missing packages, I've changed my sales policies. I used to give partial refunds, but now it's a "tough luck if you didn't purchase delivery confirmation/insurance" policy. I haven't had an issue with it since I changed the policy, but I keep all postal receipts in case I ever need to show proof that I mailed the package ( ... )

I've never sold on this community before, but I've sold (and bought) online elsewhere with some sales/purchases upwards of $100 in value per transaction (only relevant because it pertains to my opinion on things like shipping insurance, etc) so my answer is going to be reflective of that.

As a buyer:I almost always have the power to purchase shipping insurance, or, at the very least, Delivery Confirmation/Tracking or something similar. Yes, it costs more, but it IS an option ( ... )
