Very Exciting Gets to End the Year!

Dec 22, 2022 15:53

Hi everybody! :D If you've been playing Scarlet and Violet, I hope you've been loving your experience!

Since my last collection update in May, I've moved to a new apartment, updated my collection displays, and added some exciting new things to my collection, so I figured that it was time for another update! Plus, I think it's nice to end the year with a collection post.

(Larger pictures under the cut!)

First and foremost, I want to give a huge shout-out and thank you to primaldialga493, who sent me the Fire Blast accessory I was missing from my Charizard FCS figure! :D

It looks SO MUCH BETTER with the Fire Blast it was meant to have, compared to the attack it came with (which was originally for a Tauros FCS)!! Thanks so much again, primaldialga493, for helping complete my figure with your miraculous extra Fire Blast! I still can't believe you had this piece stored away waiting for a figure to complete, and I'm so grateful!

Next, I want to share some figures and plush I've added to my collection since the last time I posted.

Here is a group of lovely Mega Charizard figures! From left to right we have the Mega Y box Moncolle figure, the recent Mega Y GET figure, the recent Mega Y kid figure, the recent Mega X kid figure, the recent Mega X GET figure, and the first-released Mega Y kid figure! I'm so glad that Mega Charizard X's inclusion in the anime's Pokemon World Coronation Series resulted in a couple of new Mega Charizard Y figures too, since it's my favorite of the two! I love that the two kid figures in the middle have a swan statue vibe too haha.

With the re-release of the Johto Scale World figures, I was very happy to add the Cyndaquil line to my collection! And to the right, I have the gacha set inspired by the Pikachu's Pikaboo animated short! If you've read my other collection posts, you'll know that I LOVE the Pikachu shorts, and I was so excited to see that these figures were being made!! Seeing Donphan (unsuccessfully) hide behind a bush melts my heart with cuteness every time I look at it. Once I get another bookshelf, I plan on displaying these figures with my Pikachu's Pikaboo ChibiPokeHouse!

Speaking of Pikachu's Pikaboo, I FINALLY got the Larvitar Tomy from that short! I've been trying to find a good deal for it ever since I waited too long to purchase a BIN auction for one, and I finally found a listing that included the Larvitar, the Dark Tyranitar (also from the 4th movie Tomy set, not pictured woops), and the pictured regular-colored Tyranitar Tomy for the price I was willing to pay for just the Larvitar alone! I love how the Larvitar is stepping quietly to try not to let Pikachu know where it's hiding. I'm also super excited to finally add the Flygon line Zukan to my collection!! Even though the figures are small, they have amazing details (as expected from Zukans). Look at Flygon's clear plastic eye! We didn't see one of those in a Flygon figure for a long time after that. And finally, we have the recent Tyranitar GET figure and the Haxorus box Moncolle! Iris being in the anime's World Coronation Series allowed for more Haxorus merch to be made and I am so glad! It's been a while since I've added Haxorus merch to my collection, and seeing Haxorus more often reminded me of how much I love it.

Here are some 3D Phanpy items I added to my collection somewhat recently! Thanks to stocky101 for the absolutely adorable Phanpy ball figure, and thanks to YoshiSama for the other items in the picture! Adding Phanpy items to my collection always brings me so much joy! It's such a cute, happy friend.

I forgot to include the Phanpy here in the previous picture, so here it is with these Charizard things teehee! This Phanpy was also from stocky101, and its trunk moves up and down when you roll it (there are wheels on the bottom, and the mechanism only works sometimes). The middle Charizard gacha with the light has a little bit of a story. I thought I was going to have to ship it by boat from Japan because it has a battery built in, but my proxy didn't notice (I guess?) and they were able to put it in a courier service package. I was very happy to be able to get my items sooner, and WOW is this Charizard figure cool! When you open the gacha ball, the bottom of the ball becomes the stand and has the light built-in. I really love how dramatic the figure looks with the light underneath it! The last thing in this picture is the recent Fire-type Pokemon TCG tin with Charizard on it with its incredible artwork! For the whole first week after getting this tin, I couldn't stop myself from admiring it on my shelf all the time.

Next, here are a few random gets that arrived around the same time! Here we have the Splatoon x Pokemon keychains (I'm sorry Team Fire, I tried my best), the new Altaria Swing Re-Ment (thanks to Kyandi), and the Charmander tonal plush (thanks to DrZoidburger)! My Altaria's peg unfortunately does not fit in the hole in its back so it isn't actually swinging, but I think it still looks great resting on the bottom of the stand! I originally wasn't going to buy the Charmander tonal plush because I already have a WCT Charmander plush with the exact same pattern, but the extremely soft texture of the tonal plush series eventually won me over haha.

I was so grateful to be able to buy these two Korean plush from a store that specializes in Korean imports when I visited a friend for her wedding this October! I don't live anywhere close to a store like that, so it's always special when I can go to one. I found listings for these on eBay, but it's much more fun to pick the plush out yourself teehee! I love how soft they are, and the size of these Third Round plush is always perfect!

And now for something completely different: I was very lucky to have been able to buy this Pokemon Ranger CD-ROM! It was a promotional item given out before the release of the first Pokemon Ranger game, and it explains a few of the most important parts of the game (with interactive parts and videos!), along with advertising the Manaphy movie. I've uploaded a "playthrough" of the CD here if you're interested in seeing what's on it! After all of the game tutorial stuff, I click through some info tabs that include some pictures of Pokemon Center merch too (the first of the merch is at timestamp 11:48). There's also a surprise Pokemon TCG tutorial application that really took me off-guard when it opened haha!

Here's a picture of the CD itself too! I fondly remember the release of Pokemon Ranger and adore the game, so it feels really special to have a promotional item like this in my collection!

Keeping with the promotional theme, I finally hung these promotional posters from GameStop up in my living room when I moved at the end of June! I was able to get these because I had a friend who briefly worked at GameStop during the 25th anniversary celebration (he kept Bulbasaur). I never thought I'd have any kind of promotional display, so I was elated when my friend asked if I wanted these! I think it's especially cool to have a representation of Red and Blue, given that they celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series.

I've gotten some really cool TCG binders since the last time I posted, so I'm going to feature those next!

First up, I have this INCREDIBLE binder from 2001! I have such a soft spot for the early CGI Pokemon models, and this binder has Larvitar and Entei on it, so it's absolutely perfect in my book. The Pokemon on the front are actually stickers, so that's why you might see this binder with different arrangements of Pokemon on the front. The owner of this binder stuck them on in exactly the same orientation as on the sticker sheet it came with, which I found to be charming (unfortunately I can't find the picture I thought I saved of this binder in sealed condition, so you'll have to take my word for it).

The binder above came with this one as well, which was awesome! I have the tall TCG tin from the US with this artwork on it, so it's amazing to have the matching binder from Japan now!

Next, I was very surprised to have won an auction for this beautiful binder from 2005! It felt like it was impossible to get anything with this artwork on it for the majority of the time I've been collecting things from Japan, but then in the past couple years I've gotten both this full-sized binder and the mini binder with almost no competition. I'm definitely not complaining at all! This artwork is one of my absolute favorites, and it still feels surreal to be able to admire it in my collection.

Moving forward in time quite a bit, I finally got this Shiny Charizard binder that released somewhat recently! I mostly gave up on trying to keep up with Japanese TCG accessory releases because they are frequent and often sell out super fast, so I was very happy to find a decent deal on this binder! I use the artwork from this TCG promotion as my desktop wallpaper pretty often, so it's fun to have it in physical form now.

I'm pretty sure this was advertised as a TCG accessory when it came out?? Regardless, I'm going to call this a card box! It has Charizard, Tyranitar, AND Groudon on it, so it became a must-have for my collection when I saw it go up for auction. I won it for super cheap (500 yen), and it was definitely worth the added bulk to my shipping box from Japan. Charizard's tooth is all scratched up and Tyranitar's paint flaked off a little, but this box is still gorgeous! It's hard to tell in the picture, but the paint is shimmery.

Now on to the final stretch of my collection post - a few of the most exciting things I've gotten recently!

First in the category of most exciting- I finally have both Hasbro electronic talking Charizard figures!! The one on the left is from 2004, and I passed up many opportunities to buy it when it was new and on the shelves (I'm not sure what was wrong with me - I think I was more into cards at the time haha). The secondhand market for it skyrocketed, so I was frustrated and figured I just wouldn't get one for a long time. I decided to cave and buy a cheap one on eBay that needed some TLC and cleaned it up good as new (well, minus some foot claw paint loss)! The one on the right is from 2000 and I still can't believe that I own it! I paid a pretty penny for it, but it's incredibly rare to see one up for sale so I decided it was worth the splurge. I'm so glad I made that decision because I feel so happy every time I see these two on my shelf together! Looking at the older electronic Charizard reminds me of so many fun times playing with the Thinkchip toys and the electronic Pikachu and Meowth figures at a friend's house.

Next up, we have THESE gorgeous figures! I've wanted a Shiny Flygon and Shiny Treecko kid figure ever since I started collecting Japanese Pokemon merch around 2008, and I finally got lucky enough to get them! I won Flygon in an auction on YAJ, and I purchased Treecko from Yooj! I was always too slow to purchase these figures when fellow collectors sold them, and I never wanted to buy huge lots of kid figures to get just the shinies, but I finally had two perfect chances this year! These are two of my favorite shinies of all time, and I'm so happy to have physical merch of them!! I don't want to forget about the CLONE CHARIZARD in the middle though because it is just as exciting. This figure was part of a special box set for the release of Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution that I could never find for sale for less than $90. Then one day, the Charizard figure was listed on YAJ by itself for about $20 and I jumped on it immediately. Clone Charizard has a very special place in my heart because the whole clone idea totally captured my imagination as a kid watching the first movie in theaters. I really loved the cool markings that the cloned Kanto starters had then, and I still do now teehee! Just like many things in this post, it's amazing to have a physical version of it.

It can't be one of my recent collection updates without a ChibiPokeHouse so...

I BOUGHT A PIKAPIKA STARRY SKY CAMP CHIBIPOKEHOUSE AHHHHH! I got incredibly lucky with the listing for this one because I had no competition and paid 5000 yen for both this ChibiPokeHouse AND an extra Pikachu's Pikaboo ChibiPokeHouse that's in better condition than the one I already have!

Similar to my other recent ChibiPokeHouse additions, this one came with a box that is a little beat-up. But it's still amazing to have a box at all!

Here's the back side that shows all of the fun features!

And here's a couple of the other sides for good measure.

Kweh_chan recently posted a great, in-depth review of the set, but I still wanted to point out some of my favorite features of it!

First off, the roof of the mill house opens up to reveal a representation of the scene where all of the Pokemon are in the house and running on all of the gears when they accidentally turn it on!

During that scene, Meowth is stuck spinning on the water wheel. He looks a lot more happy about it here than he did in the short haha!

As you turn the wheel, you also turn the cylinders in the waterfall to show Psyduck enjoying a slide down, which Totodile blasts him up to if I recall correctly.

At the bottom of the ChibiPokeHouse, the Pokemon can enjoy a nice campfire! But it's not nighttime you say?

Easy solution: just turn the sign at the top around to the nighttime version to set the mood!

You can press the yellow lever to release the train - which the Pichu Brothers need to catch before it's too late!

The Pichu Brothers are at the station, but twisting the light pole makes the track switch! Looks like they'll have to jump! Though maybe it's good that the track switched because there's a barricade the other way haha

And here is our beautiful cast of characters! I really love this ChibiPokeHouse because it depicts so many wonderful moments from the short. There is real magic in these playsets, and I feel so lucky to have added so many to my collection in the past couple of years! The main ones on my wants list now are the ones related to the second movie - Shamouti Island, Fire Island, Ice Island, and Lightning Island. I have seen listings for these somewhat frequently (not usually together though), but they've been more expensive than I hope to pay. If you find any good deals for these, please don't hesitate to let me know!

Before I stop rambling, I want to share some updated shelf pics!

Here is the current display on my main shelf! I used to have this shelf backed up against a wall, but the orientation of outlets in this room required that I plug things in behind it, so...

I bought a wall shelf instead of propping these things against the wall itself! It ultimately created more shelf space for small figures, and I really love how the display looks floating on top of my other shelf!

Directly to the right of those shelves is my TV stand, upon which I proudly display (and use) my Pikachu VCR! I made a foamboard riser (please ignore the rough edges) for my figures to sit on top of the VCR without getting hot while it's running. I tried to display figures that are important to movies here! Also I'm sorry for the big glare there, that's a Surfing Pikachu clip haha.

Annnnd the final shelf picture for now - the table to the right of my TV stand (please excuse the other video game friends in the top left)! I think I'd like to add some more stands to this display, but I also kinda like the chaos? My favorite part visually is the Charmeleon crew on the riser in the back, and adding more verticality might impact that look. You'll also notice that I have finally accepted Mew as a side collection haha! I had them all spread out before as a sort of denial of the truth that I like collecting Mew, but seeing them together brings me so much joy and I'm glad I finally put them together. There are still Mew things in other places too! :'D

As per usual, I'd like to end with a link to my collection site that I am always updating little by little!

I've added anchors to a bunch of my larger pages to make them easier to navigate, and since my last update I added a good chunk of stuff to my Flygon non-flats page!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post! Hopefully it was enjoyable to look at the pictures even if you didn't have the time to read my rambling. I hope you're all having a wonderful day, and happy holidays! :D
