What's a pokemon that means a lot to you guys? Does it differ from the pokemons that you collect a lot of merch of?
For me I mainly collect Flareon and Jirachi (since they make a lot of merch of these two pokemon that I favor) but the pokemon that means a lot to me and I wish there was more merch of to collect is probably Chespin. Kinda feels silly saying that a starter pokemon doesn't have enough merch but here I am. I dunno, something about Chespin feels so perfect and comforting to me. Something about his design endears to me.
I really like Darkrai in particular! I mostly just collect PMD merchandise nowadays, so the only item I own featuring him is a souvenir penny from the Pokémon Center, but I'd love to commission some PMD-themed merchandise of him someday.
I agree with you on Chespin! XY were my first games, so I've always had a soft spot for the Kalos starters (especially Fennekin & Chespin). It could just be me, but it almost feels like they didn't get as much merch as other starters did? At least when compared to the Sinnoh starters or Kanto starters, anyways.
Yeah, I kinda feel that way too. Like once XY were done they just kinda... stopped making merch (they didn't even make much merch of them in the first place it feels like) of the XY starters? Even Fennekin AND Froakie didn't feel like they got much merch either it feels like. Most merch I can recall of them is the standard pokemon center plush of course, some obligatory Christmas plushies, and various smaller merch like the small gachapon toys/straps. Other than that it's like ???? Hopefully they can make a comeback (maybe when the remakes roll around after we get our Black/White remakes) Or maybe even a future Pokemon Legends game will have one of the XY starters as an option (which of course I will pray for Chespin to be one of them)
Yeah, it's really weird! Aside from the figures/plush/gachapons, I feel they weren't really a central focus on most of the merch they showed up in- like, I would see them on items like tins and clearfiles/notebooks relatively often, but they'd almost always be alongside 10-20+ other assorted Pokémon? They did a lot of that sort of merch during the XY era, it seems like- which is great if you collect an obscure Pokémon that doesn't show up in merch often, but not so much if you only want items that prominently feature your favorite(s) lol
When the Kalos remakes do eventually roll around, we should hopefully see some new merch of them! I remember seeing some cool Hoenn starter merch coming out in Japan around ORAS' release, though I'm not too sure if they made that much BDSP merch. Fingers crossed! And I would love to see a Legends game with one of the Kalos starters (or even one set in ancient Kalos, for that matter).
Got my new collection shelf put together! The wood was pretty rough/scratchy, so it ended up needing a lot of sanding, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :)

Hi there, Which pokemon means more to more depends on how much I liked them in merch form or in other material, like fan comics for instance. This has happened once with Quilava and Raichu and twice with Braixen and Jolteon, four of which I'd have passed on if I stuck with the games. I noticed some nice stickers with Weavile on them and that's how I decided to buy a sitting plush of it. Same thing with Scorbunny minus the plush. Some friends irl like certain Pokemon and I look at those with admiration (Meowth, Dodrio, Dragonair). The PMD merch look absolutely incredible! They put so much personality in the series. :D
