I had someone tell me something along the lines of "unless i've missed something, you must be mistaken" about the existence of a plush and all I could think in my head is "please ma'am, I am a professional" LOL
But for real though, I've been pokemon collecting for so long that i'm pretty sure i know what i'm talking about :') this one in particular was on the US retail site too, so its super verifiable with the page still up. There is obscure pokemon merch, this just isnt one of them. Anyway, it's not a huge deal and I was polite, I just thought the language was a bit aggressive and felt the need to share haha
Edit: even their reply continued to be patronizing. They must truly think I'm new to this to come in and act like I'm making a high ask requesting anything below ebay markup. Its not polite to correct someone so many times, just move on if you think its a high ask lol. I shouldn't have to flex that I know what i'm doing without having someone come in to act superior on a default
I had a somewhat similar situation--I've been looking at Shadow Lugia Pokedolls and notified a seller that their 2006 one was bootleg (there's no 2006 release) and sent a polite message with proof--and they edited the listing to say they 'did their research' lol. As if looking at sold ebay listings of other bootlegs counts as 'research'.
That's why I don't really like to do much shopping secondhand outside of the comm/Japan. Sometimes it just a hassle and not worth it. Pokemon is so popular again that people think they know best; while we've been here for over a decade like....do you really.....
Thats kind of how I feel. There are so many middlemen sites/personal shoppers these days that I think people have lost sight on how things used to be when it used to be collector/pickup only. It was easy to be "in the know" if you stayed on the right communities, and people have always been relatively nice and reasonable when it comes to undercutting ebay reseller prices. But with more middlemen/websites, collecting is more accessible to the average person so I can see why pokemon collecting is more popular/widespread now.. but with bootlegs becoming better and more widely sold as well I can see why people are so dead set on mixing them into the pool (it is insanely annoying when they take legitimate tags though, I feel like an ass when I tell someone they have a bootleg despite legitimate tags). It used to be so obvious when you'd see them at conventions, but now unfortunately they're mixed in with the stock and many look relatively good. It'd make it past me if I didn't keep some kind of tab on what plush has/hasnt been made

Yeah, and personally from what I've experienced outside of the community, people really actually quite like bootlegs, which...I know a lot of people simply don't know better, but you're absolutely right. You feel like a total jerk when pointing it out, and when I've done it, a lot of people just haven't cared, which is incredibly disappointing. You wouldn't tolerate a fake card, so why a plush

It is a little sad :'( I try to comment and make entries on occasion to sort of help revive it. I think this is still an amazing resource for merch, and just needs some modernizing (tutorials, ect) to clean it up. With other groups outside of LJ there's always some risk with buying/selling, or various other troublesome things. I really like the moderation and rules here keeping everything merch related, for example. I can come here and search/research specific things and find answers relatively easily, whereas on other platforms can be difficult to sort through.
Moderation and rules have always made this a really safe marketplace honestly. There have been a lot of good people over the years with similar levels of passion and I love that. News was wayy easier to follow on LJ I agree... my only complaint was digging through to find pickup posts sometimes haha. But this was definitely the best place for sales and news.
Yeah, it's why I still really like the group. I'll always sell and buy here first when I can, because I feel like the community rules and moderation just makes it so much easier. Plus, you usually know who the items are going to! I feel way better about selling to collectors for a correct or discounted price, then I do about selling to a stranger who may just buy stuff for hype or turn around and resell.

Never thought I'd live to see collectors groups fully migrate to Facebook beyond its peak
