TOMY Mega Charizard X set and WCT Wobbuffet
Got the TOMY set in the mail today. Decided to include Wobbuffet as well since I got it today from Target.
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, it’s really odd how we didn’t get the regular Kanto starters+Blaziken in this scale when we got their Megas. WCT is releasing a Charizard of their own, but it’ll be smaller than TOMY’s Mega Charizards. Still, I want the complete line, so I’ll get that when it comes out.
Unfortunately, TOMY weren’t exactly free of QC issues either, so you may notice notice quite a few QC issues in the pictures. In any case, let’s start with Charizard. I can’t hold the action feature that involves its wings and head long enough to take a picture, but it’s basically pushing the tail down(where the tail connects to the body). Apologies for that.
I wonder if this is a case where the figure is a bit too tall. I don’t think Mega Charizard X would be this much taller than Mewtwo. I guess either this is a giant Charizard permanently stuck as Mega Charizard X for unknown reasons or regular Charizard decided it needed to grow taller when it Mega Evolves.vThe former would make for a nice backstory with some Team Rocket figures that aren’t JJM, but human characters aren’t exactly common in the figure market.
The tail and wings seem to suffer from QC issues the most.
Now, for the other figures. Not much to say here, so I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
So, the quality issues aside, they’re great figures. However, not releasing the regular forms of the Kanto and Hoenn starters within the more appropriately scaled figure line is very odd, and I don’t think the Johto starters got any of their evolutions in said line either. The starter Pokémon a player chooses in their very first Pokémon game has a tendency to end up as their favorite Pokémon, or somewhere at the top of their list. So, to not release the regular final forms of starter Pokémon is a really strange decision.
I hope WCT does not go down the path of incomplete evolution lines. I’m also hoping that they improve overall quality, but as you can see here, TOMY had their own QC problems as well. However, I like the TOMY figures, and I like the WCT figures. I’ll continue to scour for good deals on TOMY, and I look forward to see what else WCT has planned.
