Collection Introduction Post: Zangoose and more!

Greetings Community! My name is Emily and I collect Zangoose plus a few other Pokemon. I began collecting during August of 2016 and though I joined the community a while ago I hadn't gotten around to making an introduction post until now!

Like most collectors I have been a lifelong fan of Pokemon watching the anime as kid, collecting the cards and toys, though I did not actually have a main series Pokemon game to myself until X & Y (However I did spend a lot of time playing Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon channel on my GameCube and borrowing my sister's Game Boy games). All my main collections are kept here on this shelf but I keep all my flats in a binder and I plan on eventually setting up a collection site so I can document those as well!

When it comes to Zangoose I'm not picky with the merchandise I will buy almost anything that he is featured on. I'm not sure why Zangoose is my favorite but I just seeing one in the background during the Deoxys movie as a kid and just and just going "yep that's the one, that's my favorite". I can't blame myself though because Zangoose has such a striking design, cool and cute with that angry cat face and markings! When I bought Zangoose's Bandai kid at a convention when I was in 9th grade I considered the idea of collecting him but internet searches yielded little merchandise and this was before I knew about proxy sites and he did not even have a plush yet, so I dropped the idea pretty quickly. It wasn't until after I graduated high school that I bought yet another Pokemon item, an Elekid plush, at another convention that I was struck with the idea again and when I found that Zangoose had not only received a plush but that there was a whole slew of Zangoose items I had never seen that I became hooked on collecting!

I'm not sure how these side collections turned mostly to gen 2 Pokemon since I don't even have a specific favorite generation but I just love so many of them! I remember adoring the Elekid short as a kid and his design is just so darn cute (despite that I cannot feel the same for his evolutions I must admit they are kind of cool) but also thanks to his appearance in that short he has waaayyy to much merchandise for me to collect it all so I stick to more unique items. Everyone seems to love Quagsire and smeargle and I am no exception! With Smeargle's artist inspired design and Quagsires lovable goofy face its no wonder so many people collect them! Again they have quite a bit of merchandise so I mainly stick to non-flats and items I find interesting though I think my favorites are the little Smeargle keychain frame and the wall of Quagsire figures!

Tangela is such an odd little guy and while I know he is supposed to be covered vines I have always thought that he looks like a ball of yarn! I actually wanted to collect Tangrowth first but I liked them both so much that I decided to collect the pair and I am so glad I did! While Tangrowth did get a movie cameo he has surprisingly little merchandise (I think I have actually managed to collect all of his figures!) Tangela has a lot of wonderful random merchandise, likely a product of the gen 1 pokemon craze in the 90s, but I am not complaining (even if its going to take me forever to collect all the different colors of those mini models!).

Finally here are the Aliens, Elgyem and Beheeyem! There was a period of time (mostly during gens 4-5) that I lost interest in Pokemon and since I didn't keep up with it at the time it wasn't until years later that I actually found out about these guy's existence. As I am a fan of cryptids and silly paranormal stuff I loved these two the moment I saw them! For one I just adore their designs Elgyem has such an adorable design reminiscent of the classic alien and Beheeyem has that sleek hat and coat to its look. Sadly they do not have much merchandise but I cherish every little item I find and I am especially grateful for there being several promotions during gen 5 that made sure every new Pokemon got items (I'm pretty sure neither or them would have gotten plush had that not been the case!).

Aside from my main collection shelves I have Pokemon stuff scattered all around my room, mostly items that I have accumulated over the years, many of which I have had since I was a kid. I have a catch-all shelf for figures and plush and its always hard for me to resist buying more Pokemon that aren't a part of my main collections (though I have arranged the plush so carefully that if one where to be moved off the shelf the rest might topple after). We also have some of my favorite Zangoose flats, the magazine poster and Gashapon magnet display board framed and displayed on the side of the shelf so they are the first thing anyone sees upon entering my room. Also included is one of the crowning jewels of my Pokemon collection the somewhat bizarre bootleg boxing glove wearing. . .Pikachu? I don't really know much about this funny guy as I bought him from eBay years ago and his tag yields little information, nevertheless I am happy to have him!

And finally I leave off with this image of what my Zangoose collection consisted of back in 2016 when I first started, a mini poster included with a Pokemon VHS, a tiny bootleg, and the Zangoose kid that started this madness, it has come a long way since then and look forward to expanding it even further as a part of this great community!
