Introduction: Welcome to Alola!

Jan 22, 2017 17:19

Hi everyone! I've been lurking around the community for a while now, but never got around to making an intro post, so I thought I should definitely fix that!

I'm 24 and originally from California, but am currently living in Massachusetts as a first-year medical student. I joined this community last year when I was interviewing for schools, and it's been a great source of stress relief ever since. I love looking at everyone's collections!

I played the original games when I was in first grade and have been following along ever since (although I just generally play through the storylines; I'm not that good at all the extra IV/shiny/etc. stuff although I did complete the Pokedex in Heart Gold!

Anyways, I collected some things growing up (I have a very old 18 year old Pikachu) but did not bring all of it with me to school, so this is a picture of my collection now. I tried to make it a happy little corner of my dorm room!

I love the ditto-Pokemon plushies and their pastel colors. They're currently hanging out with custom needle-felted dolls I made (more on themlater).

I ordered my Wailord to get here the day I moved to Boston; it's quite lovely to see that smile all around. I figured Sailor Pikachu and Popplio belonged with him!

About my Pikachu collection. I got most of them them last year throughout my interview process for different "milestones" that I may or may not have made up to get more Pikas.
I got the Sapporo Pikachu and the College Pikachu from gaarasyami this past winter break (along with a Vulpix not pictured) I love them very much! The Sapporo Pikachu is perfect because this is the first time I am living anywhere with snow. The College Pikachu wears the colors of my medical school, which is why I had to get her.

Rowlet! My favorite Pokemon along with Mimikyu and Alolan Raichu from the Sun and Moon Games. I made shiny and non-shiny needle felted dolls to go along with the big one!

And here is my original Pikachu (he looks pretty darn grubby but he has been through the washing machine at least 15 times). When I joined this community last year I thought I would try to see if I could find him a twin, and I actually found a brand new version of the same plush (the one that squeaks)! That was pretty fun, and it's funny to see the disparity between them.

Since my dorm room is small and I no longer work as a student and have a limited budget for the next 5 years, I try to limit my collection (although we'll see how many more Rowlets turn up). I do, however, love making customs (I hope this part of the post is okay... I know I do not have sales permission, so I am not trying to advertise!) Needle felting is really fun; I picked it up last year and it has been fun to try and create different dolls!

I made a bunch of non Pokemon first, but I made Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur as the first set of Pokemon. Bulbasaur was really hard to get the bulb right, but it was worth it! There's also a Jigglypuff in there.

A closeup of the Rowlets I was talking about!

A Mimikyu closeup!

And here is my Alolan Raichu, I am very proud of it!

Next on my list includes Rockruff (maybe, not quite sure how difficult it'll be), or oddish, or shroomish. Who knows!

I also make clay figurines for fun. I made a Mimikyu army recently and some other cute Pokemon.

(Kyogre kid and two fuzzy figures were of course not made by me)
Some Minior beads

And finally, I also do drawings as a hobby. I'm better at humans than Pokemon but I'm trying to learn :))) I used to design Pokemon Gijinka, but I have less time now so that has stopped.

In honor of Sun and Moon

Kyogre Gijinka

Jirachi Gijinka

That's all I have to say for now about my collection. I hope to add to it by both adding new items and making new things :)

I am unsure of what my wants really are since I am a pretty limited collector, but just off the top of my head I'd be happy to eventually own a Kyogre Pokedoll (my favorite legendary!) I'm also interested in other Rowlet plush, although I'm hoping to just wait for the US release.
