After I joined + started purchasing many things from the community, I've had my mom made jibes at my collecting with her saying "why are you buying so many of these useless toys? They're a waste of money when you could be saving up for a car" or something of the sort. I basically just get through by saying it's my money and I can use it as I wish but she responds with "you work so hard for the money just to spend it on something so trivial" but I'm here telling her well that's what I want to use my hard-earned money on. That's what makes me happy.

I don't think my Pokemon collection has grown TOO huge yet so I'm not sure what a stopping point would be for me...but at the moment I'm just trying to save and not spend so much to get my mom to relent on her comments a little bit.

I personally believe my collecting is a hoarding addiction xD....

Yep, I'm in the same boat, but no matter how much I try to reason that it's my money that I earned, my mom insists that I should have stopped completely and saved every cent. But what's the point of having a lot of money without enjoying some, you know?

I agree! I understand her concerns and it's definitely good to save but...there really is no use if you save to the point of not spending anything at all. As long as you're spending within your limit and your collecting doesn't take priority over other important things, there's nothing wrong with it. We work hard for our money and we should be able to treat ourselves! T v T

I think we have all had these thoughts. It's very tough and I think a stopping point is very much a personal boundary. My collection takes up a good part of my house lol. At some point I will likely have to make some hard choices as we all do and sell some. It comes it waves, depending on your funds and space you will figure out where you need to be.

Very tough indeed... My collection is currently taking up space in my closet but ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a house with a room completely dedicated to Pokémon... I'm pretty solid when it comes to funds and I don't want to stop with gen 7 coming up... It's just discouraging when family shames you for spending on things you like

There are always going to be things your family members don't agree with. My mom doesn't understand either but she also knows there are worse things I could be addicted to lol. Little solace, I know. Everyone has their querks

I really don't have a big collection, and so far my family doesn't really care about what I'm doing, but personally I do feel like there's a point where a collection can get too big or can turn more into an obsession. You can keep collecting for as long as you want and get the biggest collection you want but if it starts becoming a boundary between you and others, taking up to much space, or If the money is going to your collection instead of other important things then it becomes a problem.

My mum also used to take the useless toys approach to my collection so I explained to her that actually these toys can become quite valuable in a few years so it's actually like a long term investment. And in the meantime they're a fun and colourful decoration that makes me happy to collect! :) She understood a bit more after that (she doesn't need to know I don't plan to ever sell a big chunk of my stuff! XD) but yeah at the end of the day it's your choice! :) If you want to collect no one can stop you! :D I think a lot of the time people don't understand the point/appeal of collecting but I'll bet those same people spend money on things that are just as 'useless'! ;)

I am sorry to hear your family disapproves of your collecting. My opinion is do what makes you happy. If you like collecting and you do it within your means, go for it! I love Pokemon and Disney. Two things that take a lot of my money. ;) My collection of both takes up a lot of space, but I love looking at it and adding to it. It is so fun to find something new that I want and can add to my collection. "a stopping point", what is that?? :) ;) I don't plan to stop, but I have "adjusted" my collection to focus on Pokemon I really like and same with Disney. I think that helps with the cost, space, and a sort of "stopping" point.

I know it is way easier to sit here and say ignore your family and do what you want! It is hard to explain collecting to someone that doesn't have that collecting bug. I am glad there are places on the internet like this community where we can share our love of collecting with other people. :) Hope my ramblings made some since......
