Hi everyone! I've had an account here for some time, but I've always neglected to make a post about my collection that's been four years in the making. Some of you may know me from other forums or communities by the name of Tonysandlin or Evilpacman. For those who don't, I am primarily a collector of Pokemon TCG, who dabbles a bit into the competitive and casual TCG scene. I currently have a very large Voltorb and Electrode collection, which the next few post will be centered on, and my goal is to have the most complete TCG collection of a single Pokemon. Before I show any pictures of my progress, I'd like to delve a bit into my collections' history. Continued under the cut!
My collection has gone though many iterations. From it's conception, in 2010, it was only supposed to contain one of each Voltorb and Electrode, which added up to about 40 cards. I also included two trainers that featured Voltorb in the art. As my colletion grew, I expanded to include the reverse holos and 1st editons where applicable. Additionally, a few Japanese cards made the cut, so long as they were never printed in English. My collection subsequently increased to the mid 70's.
However, from aquiring many other Japanese cards as extras in my trade, I felt that my exclusive Japanese cards were out of place among the English collection. There was yet another attempt to expand my collection into the non-english languages. After initially vetoing my own idea, I came to the conclusion that no real Voltorb collection would exclude the other language. Thus, my collection grew once again; this time including Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Korean and World Championship. Chinese was later added once I learned of the Base Set and Ex Legend Maker that were printed in that language.
Now, with an additional 350 cards to add to my collection, I went into overdrive. Over the next 2 years, I traded, bought and received as gifts, many of the cards I needed. The Voltorb-featured Trainer cards were removed and serial codes for EX series cards were added, signing of the final, major change to my collection. More recently, Russian was added as that language became available for the XY expansions.
As it currently stands, my collection goals have matured into one single concise and tangible goal, with about 99% confidence that I've discovered ever card that is needed to satisfy this goal. I say 99% because, just recently, I've discovered another print run of Spanish Base set that wasn't originally included it my collection.
The Goal: To collect one of every official Pokemon TCG card featuring Voltorb and Electrode in the name in every language. This includes all print runs (1st edition, unlimited, etc.), holo variations, promos, misprints, errors, serial codes, or any other card with an officially recognized and repeatable difference. My collection does not feature any trainers, miscuts or other one-off errors. It also does not include any non TCG cards such as Bandai or Cardass, although I do have some of those set aside.
So far, I am only missing 10 cards which are the following:
