Wow, I finally get a chance to post on one of these! Happy Friday the 13th and Happy early Valentines Day [even to ones, like me, that are still single]!
- Anywho, is anyone going to one of the Pokemon Regionals Championships this weekend [either in Doswell, VA, St. Louis, MO, Portland, OR or Lancaster, CA]? I'll be at the one in VA, in case anyone else will be there [I'll be there both days and will probably have a plush or two with me. Not sure which ones, but it'll probably be Mega Diancie and an Eevee. First time working as Staff rather than participating - I'm excited!]! Also, good luck to everyone that's participating!
- For all those with "Pokemon Art Academy", what do you think about that contest to put your PAA art onto an actual TCG card? Here's the details, if you haven't read about it yet. It sounds so awesome to see fanart onto an English TCG card [though having it not tournament legal or sold in stores makes it a really high collectors item once the winners are announced] and I hope TPC does more of these in the future
Oh, that's really cool they're having a Regional event here! (I'm in Richmond, hehe). My apologies, I have no knowledge of events like that, but do they ever have any merchandise there, or is it just strictly the competition?
The past couple of years have had Winter Regionals near Richmond, surprisingly! [Also, you're about an hour from me! That's awesome!] It's been a high turnout for the two previous years, and this year's sounds just as big based on online preregs.
They have the competitions [TCG and VG], door prizes/raffles [usually Play! Pokemon hats, deckmats and other goodies - the new deckmats are gorgeous from what I've seen, and I'm usually not a fan of the Primals], and other pay-to-play side events [TCG stuff]. I also know Troll and Toad is selling card stuff there, but I'm not sure if there'll be any other dealers there or not. Heck, most of the time, I've remembered seeing people trading, battling, getting Streetpass tags, and just making friends with new people. It's a nice experience to try out if you have any free time this weekend!
If I had Pokemon Art Academy I would be all over that contest! I've always dreamed of having some of my art on a Pokemon card. ;_; However, I haven't wanted to buy the game based on some reviews I've read... I'm not a beginner artist, and tracing official artwork does not appeal to me at all. From what I've heard, that's a majority of the beginning "stages"? Or you're forced to draw certain pokemon in specific poses? I'm not entirely sure how it works, but it doesn't sound very appealing T_T
Yeah, the beginning lessons are like that, but it is a good way to start, especially for kids. [This coming from a 29 year old just sounds weird... XD] The later lessons are less about tracing and more about mastering new techniques to make the artwork unique and teach about shading, colors and all that artsy goodness. Honestly, they can be hard and take a long time, but the end result is worth it.
The freedom of Free Paint mode is the best though! You can use the template Pokemon [ones that you download or earn with each completed lesson], use a photo that you take with your 3DS camera [perfect for doodling plushies], or you can just do your own artwork without a reference piece to help with shapes and appearance.
Just to show you some of the fun I had with Free Paint:
Oh, I agree- the game sounds perfect for beginners or people looking to learn and practice some basics. The Free Paint mode seems like it would be the best feature on it for me. However, I already use Photoshop almost daily, so there's not much incentive for me to buy the game. :3
I figured they would finally make a TCG design contest for people playing Pokemon Art Academy. I have a copy myself, but I haven't passed all the lessons yet, so I don't have anything spectacular to enter. I've seen some of the pieces that people have created and posted from the game though, and they're some amazing potential card designers out there! It would be exciting if we had someone from our community win.
I haven't been playing mine much either [I'm slowly working on the Intermediate level lessons whenever I'm not playing ORAS, ACNL, or working/sleeping], but I'm getting there! At least it's either a Cosplay Pikachu or any Pokemon you want. It'd be nice to see different Pokemon get a chance in the spotlight by an artistic fan!
That would be really awesome if a community person won! The sucky part is that only the winners would have their own cards, but that just ups the rarity of them!
