Fixing Clearfiles?

Oct 09, 2012 16:34

Hey community, I could use some advice. I just got my Gym Leader clearfile in the mail, and it all seven kinds of bent to hell thanks to overseas mail. Is there anything I can do to right that? I don't have my camera, but it is pretty bad... any techniques?

Well, I usually try sitting things under two giant dictionaries. I'm not sure how it would work for clearfiles, but it certainly wouldn't make them any worse.

I echo the idea of weighing it down flat between something heavy, like a stack of books. It will flatten it out, but sadly there is no way to get any creases out of it. :( I once received a clearfile with a bend in it and successfully flattened it under a stack of dictionaries. Be sure to leave it there for a while (a week or so at least).

I would think keeping it in a warm place (not hot, you don't want it melting ;3), and squashed between heavy items would help it form its shape back. They are made of plastic, so if you can essentially try to "reform" it to a flat shape in a warm area, it should help with the creases.

I don't think it will get rid of them completely, but it should help make them less noticeable.

I'd say set it between 2 pieces of cardboard then iron it. The heat should get it to relax the wrinkles. Just make sure the steam is off, you don't want moisture to exacerbate the matter.

Oh, there's a great idea! I was really worried about using weight, I don't want to set the wrinkles in badly... I'll have to give ironing a try, that'd make sense with it being plastic and all..

In my art class... we did something called... Batik...
Now it isn't exactly what you have... It was wax on fabric, however...
To iron make sure you have a few sheets of newsprint, some construction paper and other things to make sure that you don't burn it!

My sister has OCD about things, and she hates it when she open a new vinyl shower curtain, and it's all lined and/or wrinkly. So she sets out on the craft table and puts a cardboard box over it... and irons it. Yep, that's m family. It works pretty good! Even though vinyl is not that similar to a plastic folder chemically, I thought it would work :)

I don't think weight will fix the issue as wholly as adding a bit of heat to redistribute the cells
