So, the local Cleveland
paper is doing a
"Yule Madness" tournament, modeled on the March Madness brackets. They have lined up 16 popular Christmas carols and holiday songs, and every week between now and Christmas, they will put the songs head to head to see which ones are the most popular. I have "Joy to the World" beating out "The Christmas Song," which is a change from my first bracket. I had been thinking "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" was "Angels We Have Heard On High," and had put it through to #1 on the strength of that "Alleluia." Reading my family's declamations against the snubbing of "O Holy Night" and "The 12 Days of Christmas," I thought of a series of Top 5 Lists:
TOP 5 CHRISTMAS CAROL SNUBS
5. "We Three Kings"
4. "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing"
3. "O Little Town of Bethlehem"
2. "Angels We Have Heard on High"
1. "Hallelujah" Chorus from The Messiah
TOP 5 HOLIDAY SONG SNUBS
5. "Happy XMas (War is Over)"
4. "Here We Come, a-Wassailing"
3. "Carol of the Bells"
2. "Sleigh Ride"
1. "The 12 Days of Christmas"
Tonight,
panoramicgreen and I will go for dinner at our local Mexican restaurant,
La Estrellita Poblana and then come home to decorate our tree and watch Christmas movies (starting with Love, Actually). I'll post photos when they are available.
