Are We Human, Or Are We Dancer?

Or are we in fact just not very good at keeping our lj up-to-date? And by we, I obviously mean me. Apologies for the delay in posting, the fact I haven't checked my flist in ages and the fact I have no fanart to show for my absense. Anyway, I'm digressing...
What I really want to share with you is the highlights of my last few weekends... so here they are.

A few weekends ago, I once again set off to Sheffield to spend a long weekend in the company of my awesome friend Samantha. Saturday night saw us once again rock the Casbah nightclub. We also gave The Corporation a try but it was playing metal not indie and Samantha and I did not approve so we've decided to stick to the Casbah in the future. On Sunday we mostly chilled but we also watched Slumdog Millionaire at the cinema which we both thought was very good but it wasn't the best film for Samantha being visually very busy and having subtitles that change both colour and position on the screen!

Then came Monday and The Killers. Yay!

We started queueing from 3:30pm and managed to get up against the barrier albeit to the far right of the stage. First on were Louis XIV who I rather enjoyed; the sound a little like the Raconteurs although that may just be the similarity between the lead singer's and Jack White's voice. Then The Killers themselves who put on a fantastic show with lights, pyrotechnics and fab music. The crowd we were in was also excellent; we were singing along from the chrous of opener Human and the singing, clapping, waving and dancing continued throughout the entire set but with no pushing and shoving. The set finished with All These Things I've Done and during the encore someone started the chant of "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" which was picked up by the majority of the crowd and sounded great as an unaccompanied chant. Soon, The Killers were back on stage and played out the the show with four songs for the encore. The setlist in full was:

Human
This Is Your Life
Somebody Told Me
For Reasons Unknown
World We Live In
Joyride
I Can't Stay

I also took a few short vid clips, the longest and best being this clip from Spaceman:

I had an excellent weekend with Sheffield in Samantha. This was followed by an excellent weekend with another friend, Laura. On Saturday we saw Snow Patrol with my friend Judy from work.

Fist up were Cashier No.9 who were ok and White Lies who were excellent. Then Snow Patrol themselves. I first saw Snow Patrol a few years back and they were good but not spectacular. This time they were! They put on quite the show this time with lots of audience interaction including when Gary Lightbody came into the audience and performed an acoustic version of Run followed by a request for the arena to go dark and everyone to hold their mobiles up - yeah, it's been done before but it still looks amazing every time I've experienced it. This time was no different. Here are a couple of vid clips to demonstrate:

As well as videos, I took some photos:

On Sunday, we visited the pub for lunch with my and Paul's mutual friends, Steve and Rach:

On Monday, Laura and I took the train to Liverpool for a day-trip. It was a fun day. I've never really got into The Beatles but obviously appreciate their contribution to modern music. Laura's enthusiam was also rather infectious and the Magical Mystery Tour we went on had a charismatic tour guide and was very good and informative. A good day was had.

On Tuesday evening, I saw The Killers for the second time. This time it was in seats at the MEN Arena with Laura and my beloved Paul.

I have to admit that from our seated position The Killers did not put on as good a show as Snow Patrol. Less audience interaction and the light show just didn't seem to reach as far. I still prefer The Killers musically but I felt that the atmosphere wasn't as good as it was up against the barrier. Nevertheless, The Killers show was good and enjoyed by us all.
Here's my favourite clip from Tuesday's show:

On Wednesday, we waved goodbye to Laura who set off to visit another friend, Alex in Nottingham. Paul and I then went to the cinema to watch Watchmen. We really enjoyed it. It's a good adaptation of the original graphic novel and a good film in its own right. There are some changes from the original source material but the themes and characters are not compromised at all. I was not disappointed and actually suprised because the film made me cry at the end (Rorschach scene - no more details so as not to spoil) - something the graphic novel never managed.

I spent the next weekend catching up with my studies and writing the first assignment of my current and final Open Uni course. It's a project course and there's a lot of reading and research, not to mention the final write-up - I'm getting my excuses in early for why my lj is not going to be regularly updated with fanart this year.

Tuesday night this week saw what I consider to be the "end of an era" with regards to my TV viewing: Grissom's departure from CSI (Vegas). Although, I was sad to see Grissom go, I was overjoyed with his final scene. My fellow CSI viewers will understand this. I also fully intend to continue watching the show despite it having now lost my two favourite characters.

And finally... last but certainly not least; on Tuesday March 17th my friend Rachael gave birth to her adorable, healthy baby girl, Emily Zoe (there's an umlout on Zoe but I don't know how to type that in this text box).

These photos were taken on the Thursday. To view the rest, click here.

That's all folks!
