Blame it on the words

Yesterday, Paul and I went to see Guillemots at Leeds Metropolitan Student's Union. They were brilliant. Guillemots have a wide range of songs from the very quiet and contemplative to the loud and brash - they played them all with passion and skill. Frontman, Fyfe Dangerfield (I love that man's name!) was also an engaging host, chatting to the audience and attempting to draw us in to the spirit of things. He had a tough job - I was mostly unimpressed with the audience response. I admit, I was near the back and side not up front against the barrier. Paul's bad back would never have survived that kind of abuse and I didn't drag him all the way to Leeds, have him put up with my *panic-I'm-lost* driving and have him trail halfway across Leeds with me in search of the Met Uni SU just to abandon him at the actual gig. Besides, it was great to cuddle against him during the slower songs. However, there really was little atmosphere for much of the gig. Even during the rocking live version of recent hit favourite "Get Over It" most people were static. Worse still, some people were more interested in chatting than watching the gig. "We're Here" was performed by Fyfe alone on the stage with just his acoustic guitar and beautiful, beautiful voice. The first minute however was overidden by various audience chatter until others rebelled and started exclaiming "Shhhh" and "Shut up" until everyone finally did. Seriously, it left me wondering why some people even bother going to gigs!? Paul and I both agreed that the band themselves were top notch though and enjoyed ourselves regardless. I most certainly was not static for all the energised moments of the gig and I thoroughly intend to watch them play live again.

To celebrate my current love for Guillemots in true fangirl style, I have made four icons and two wallpapers.
