I can't wait to benchmark Wordpad!

After a lengthy hiatus, I finally have some news worthy of a blog entry. After several months of pestering and subtle (read: vulgarly obvious) convincing, my mother finally broke down and bought me a new computer. Yep, I now possess a pc which I may justifiably label a "rig".

Given, it doesn't have an SLI, nor does it have a custom case with glowing lights, custom paint job, deluxe cheese graters, or any such extraneous things. Why not? Well, Dell computers don't offer such options, and besides, the budget simply didn't allow it.

After all this time spent wishing for my own computer, one has to wonder where the money to buy one magically came from. Turns out that my mother plans to get a job at the university I attend to soften the ridiculous tuition and other sky-high fees involved with high academia. It really amazes me, what she does for this pathetic excuse for a son of hers, but I appreciate the heck out of it. Well, the main specifications are as follows:

Pentium® D Processor 830 with Dual Core Technology - 3.0 Ghz
512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz - 2DIMMs
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800

I had to settle upon some of the lower options (like 512 MB RAM instead of 1 GB) because of present budget contraints, but these will do for now. Dell failed to offer a good 2.1 speaker setup, so the rig is presently mute, but I trust newegg or zipzoomfly will provide me with something cool. I'll have to tap into my own finances for a wireless router and ethernet card, but those can be found for relatively cheap prices.

So, I finally get my wish. I got my own personal compy, and life is beautiful, but anyone who knows me understands that I gotta have something to complain about. A minor complaint would be that the computer has to go with me on campus in the fall, which means that the only time I'll truly be able to utilize it for recreation is when I can take it home during long breaks and holidays. I won't have much time to waste anyway, once the semester gets going.

Hmmm...I just realized a bonehead mistake on my part. In the effort to keep the price as low as possible, I forgot to include an Antivirus program. Well, no matter. Malicious trojan files and viruses tend to avoid the stronger computers for fear of being overpowered by their awe-inspiring computational capabilities. See? I understand computers perfectly.
