Yesterday I was sitting in Athlone train station waiting for my father to pick me up when my mobile phone rang. It was a man from AIB (Allied Irish Bank) who wanted to verify some recent card transactions (my card is also a laser/debit card). Someone had performed a laser transaction in Bucharest (where I've never been!) to the tune of €190, they had tried another transaction of in excess of €200, but that failed to go through.
I'll get my money back, but I'll have to sign forms in order to do so. My card has been cancelled, so it'll be at least five working days before I get a new one. Which means that in order to get money out of my account I'll have to physically go into the bank and queue for ages.
He reckons my card was skimmed by a card reader in an ATM machine in the last month. I wonder could it have happened in Vancouver? I was over at a Stargate convention from 31st March to 13th April.
Fuck you card skimmers
