I'm one of those contrary souls who doesn't like to read best-sellers, see the big box-office smash movies or knit the patterns that everyone and her sister is knitting. No sheep, I.
Except. Sometimes things get popular not just because they're hyped, but because they're good.
Pattern: Kate Gilbert's
Clapotis, from Knitty.com

Needles: Size 7 circulars
Started: March 15.

I wanted something warm to take to Minneapolis next week in case of cold weather - something I could throw around my neck or over my shoulders with or without a jacket and shove in a suitcase and wash when I got home. Clapotis fit the bill, and was a whole lot quicker to knit than the lace shawls I tend to favor.
I like it. It was pleasant and fast to knit, just slightly less mindless than stockinette, and Once I'd done a few rows I didn't need to carry the pattern around with me. It's soft and squishy and snuggly and I like the way it drapes (although I think I liked it more before I blocked it - when I wash it, I'll probably just pat it out and let it dry to take advantage of the stockinette curl, which would be more feature than bug in this pattern.)
I'm probably not going to need it on this trip, if the weather forecasts play out, but I'll pack it anyway.
I refuse, however, to call it "The Clap." (-:
