Hey Look, an Update!

Jan 11, 2009 17:56

So here we are in the new year, and I've once again neglected to update for months on end.  I'd like to say I was busy, so lets just assume that I was and move along.  Anyway, I'm updating now, so really, isn't that the important part?  Anyway, I've missed a lot, so here basically a quick run down of everything that's been going on with me since my last update, in handy dandy list form!
-Moved into a new apartment.
-Bought a brand-new futon for $10.  Score!
-Discovered Hulu, and how awesome it is.
-Finished the last current book in the Song of Fire and Ice series.
-Saw TMBG live for the third time in the span of a year.
-Started volunteering at the Chippewa Valley Museum (4 hours a week every Tuesday).
-Started selling  donating blood plasma for extra money.
-Started playing the english fan-translation of Mother 3 (woo!).
-Got seconded degree oil burns on my hands at work, went on workman's comp for a couple days.
-Saw Cinematic Titanic Live a couple days later.
-Voted for a black guy.
-Stopped biking everywhere due to cold and snowy weather.
-Gain ten pounds because I stopped biking to work every day.
-Decided to apply to Graduate School for Museum Studies.
-Caught every single damn Pokemon except Celebi in Pokemon Pearl.  ADDICTION BROKEN!
-Turned in an application for UW Milwaukee.
-Wrote this.

So that was the latter half of my 2008.  Looking at this list, is seems mostly positive, but it kind of felt like 2008 sucked a lot.  Moving into a new apartment has set me back severely financially. I'm on a really tight budget, and the only way I've been able to save any money is through what I've earned donating plasma and tips.  And most of that is now going towards expenses related to applying to graduate school.   But I've got high hopes for 2009.

So I've mentioned a couple times now that I'm applying to graduate school again.  Probably cause I should be working on it right now instead of typing this.   Anyway, if one were to go back and read my last entry, they would find that I wrote some cryptic remarks about a “plan.”  Basically, at that time, I was in communication with the Chippewa Valley Museum.  I didn't want to go into it much, cause... I don't remember why, but it probably sounded like a good idea at the time.  Maybe I wasn't too sure of what I'd be doing at that point...  My plan was that I'd start volunteering there to get some working experience, and to see how I like working in a museum.  I found I liked it a lot, so I started looking into what it would take to get a job in a museum.  I then came to the conclusion that my best move would be to applying for graduate school again.  Only this time, my I'd have a very clear focus on the career path I'd like to take upon completion of graduate school.  So that brings me to now.  I've already turned in one application.  Three more are due at the beginning of February, one at the beginning of March, and another in mid-March.  I got a really good feeling about this, and I think I'm on the right path.  Well, I'll start to hear back from schools I've applied to in April, so check back then to see what happens.

There, now that we're all nice and updated, I'd like to announce an new project for this space.  Basically, I'd like to update more, and I'd like hone my writing.  Therefore, I'm going to attempt to update here with a new entry every Sunday.  The entry must be about 500 words long, and it must make some kind of sense (meaning I can't just randomly write words).  The entries should also contain good grammar and spelling, so I can practice proofreading my own work.  Finally, I'm not going to count it as a missed update unless I go one week (Sunday to Sunday) without updating.  That'll give me some wiggle room incase I've something going on.  Other than that, the the skies the limit.   I probably won't talk that much about myself all that much, simply cause I just don't have a whole lot going on with me right now.  I'll probably just write about whatever concerns me at the moment.  I've a couple ideas floating around in my head. So what will happen?  Will I keep at it, or will I get bored and go do something else?  Who knows!  Only time will tell, so stay tuned! (wait, that doesn't make sense) And so, with this posting, here begins a YEAR OF UPDATES!!!

life stuff, video games, meta, year of updates, grad school
