Annabeth + Sally, "I'm not going to lose him, too."avid_reader1029October 10 2010, 00:42:42 UTC
It was quiet in the apartment. Percy had swim team practice after school today, but Annabeth liked Percy's mom, and didn't mind waiting at his place for him. It had been a while since they were able to catch up.
But that hadn't gone the way she'd expected it to; when Annabeth had arrived at the apartment, Sally had been contemplative, quiet. Annabeth wondered if she should ask about whatever was causing Mrs. Blofis to be so unlike herself, but thought better of it. So they'd been sitting in silence for the last 45 minutes, an unnatural stillness in the air like the calm before a storm.
Annabeth jumped when Sally spoke, shattering the quiet into a thousand sharp fragments. "I'm not going to give him up that easily."
Annabeth felt lost for a moment, sensing that she needed to tread very carefully but not quite knowing how to proceed. For all her beyond-her-years wiseness and intelligence, she wasn't much better than Percy at emotional confrontations. Tentatively, she said, "Give who up, Mrs. Blofis?"
Sally gave her a look that said quite clearly that Annabeth knew exactly who she was talking about. "Percy, dear. Annabeth, you're practically my daughter, and you're the only girl in the world I'd trust my Percy with, but he's still my Percy, my little boy. And I'm not giving him up that easily."
Annabeth stared at Sally, surpised, warmed, and slightly nervous at this statement. "I, um, what brought this on, Mrs. Bofis?"
Sally smiled kindly, even though a deep sadness was etched into her features, a weariness in her eyes that was all too familiar, that struck Annabeth with a pang of wrongness. She'd seen people wear that look before, too many times to count, but Sally didn't deserve to have that look on her face, she was too good for that. "Annabeth, I love you like a daughter, but Percy is my son," Sally had a pleading look on her face now, begging Annabeth to understand her, to not judge her, "and I'm not going to lose him too."
I'm not even sure what that was. I didn't even mean for that to come out. *sigh* Well, I hope you like it, and please don't hit me if you don't. *hides behind chair*

Aw, why wouldn't I like it? :) It was different from what I had in mind, but I still love it; it's definitely an interesting take on Sally's relationship with Annabeth that I don't think a lot of people consider, so.
