Day One: The Packing Begins
Holy shit...I have a lot of stuff.
And I know everyone says that while trying to organize their lives, but it's true I have a LOT of stuff.
And it's nothing terribly important...just stufff.
Example?
I had a rubbermaid tub filled with CD cases. And not just a lil airtight case, a tub that one could fit their winter wardrobe into...filled to the brim with CD Cases.
80% of them were empty.
Why was I carrying around a tub of empty CD cases? I can't answer this question.
Did my empty case of "Simpsons Sing the Blues" really have some sort of intrinsic meaning that I would keep it with me for fifteen years?
Another 18 % were cd's that I had bought and forgot that I bought them.
I know this is a nasty habit I have. Buying stuff and never using it...it's mostly know that my DVD collection are movies that I want to watch that night, and then never do. So I have unopened copies of The Natural, Indiana Jones, The Departed and others. And I forgot that I had three Live CD's laying around that I never opened.
There are a few cd's that I bought from local artists out of pity, so I had no problem throwing them away...but what about the stuff that I wanted to listen to and spend about 50 bucks on (collectively) I can't just throw that value away.
The other 2% were cd's that weren't even mine.
I mean I like Charlie Parker, but I don't have any of his jazz in my collection...how did it get to the bottom of this green bin of forgotten CDs?
Then I started packing my clothes. But this i'm more careful with...I started with a bin of clothes I might want. Why not give them away? I don't know, I'm not going to wear them anytime soon, but if I happen to lose weight or rolled up sleeves come back into style, I'll be good.
