Dear TV stations,
I must pose a question for the stuff on TV on christmas day. I have made my piece with the odd tradition of the "yule log". An airing of a fireplace with christmas music i could see being a decent background when the kids are opening their presents, though for everyone else it's utterly useless.
My gripe today is with the movie marathons. Now, on holidays i know often there are marathons of different shows, like the "twilight zone" marathon that usually happens on new year's, or a "law and order" marathon. But movie marathons which involve the same exact movie repeated over and over again for the entire day is non-sensical.
For myself, the jew on christmas who has little to do when all friends are away or busy with their families for christmas, and nothing is open, tv is a necessity. And while i may be interested in watching one airing of the movie you are showing, that would be the extent of the usefulness. After that it just leaves the channel unwatchable. And that would be the same case for anyone else wanting to watch tv. So why do it?
I get that there is probably a low amount of people watching tv on christmas day, but there must be better solutions. Have a marathon of a movie with sequels. Like a harry potter movie marathon or a star wars marathon, or a similar movie with several sequels. That way it is still a marathon but there is some variety. I would watch then for a long period of time. Then the time would be bankable.
And my last question, why is it always a crap movie? Now, i somewhat get that one station does 'a christmas story' on christmas, but another did "ice age 2" all day. Why that one? WTF? Why not something better or even something more christmasy, like "a miracle of 42nd street", i might watch an airing of that. I know that some of my more fav movies are too violent to be on all day (eg fight club, the usual suspects), but there are many many movies out there, and many which are better than what is airing and still family friendly.
