Sleep is no friend of mine tonight; and while I sit on my bed trying to lull myself to sleep, I can hear the thunder roll...
At first, the sound was small and distant, and I almost thought that what I had heard was a car driving quickly down the street. There was silence, then, and I continued with my book as if nothing had happened at all, but jumped when I heard the thunder a second time. This time it was closer, this time the sound was unmistakable.
But a little thunder didn't scare me.
But a little lightening did.
It was a quick and bright flash, one that I caught out of the corner of my eye coming from under my blinds. Of course, I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but when I heard the thunder again...the lightening flashed a second time, brighter, and finally I decided to get out of bed to look out my window.
The final roll of thunder I heard, shook the house and shook me. It was loud and it was angry and I did not like it in the slightest. But the light I saw outside my window was fascinating. The streaks of light that flashed down from the sky, light that seemed to be so close, just beyond a few of the houses in the neighborhood...
And then the rain came.
