Net Negatives

Okay, sorry, I was trying to be all positive and shit and it just isn't working.

So earlier this month, I finally FINALLY paid off the last of my credit card (YAY!) It had been hanging over my head for two years (ever since I quit my job at ECI), and it felt SO good to get it officially done.

It didn't last long enough for me to brag about, cuz the check-engine light came on, and the car had to go in for service, and came out again with $1,000 worth of coolant-valve fixes and a set of new tires (which I don't especially regret, cuz they were on sale and I knew I was fixing to need them anyway.) That went back on the credit card. As did the $350 tax preparer's fee.

And now, when I log back in to pay some bills, I come to find out that that last-of-the-old-debt that I paid off DIDN'T actually get paid off, cuz I set it to pay from the wrong bank account. Where it quietly incurred a $33 NSF fee. And then another $33 NSF fee. And then a $25 returned check fee added on to the credit card. And now a $30 past-due fee. AND AT NO POINT DID I RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION AT ALL. JFC, how come is it that the assholes at MasterCard can send me some exclusive-platinum-offer in the mail every 10 days like clockwork, but can't let me know when my payment is declined? How hard is that? And for that matter, what the hell is the point of trying to run the payment a second time if my checking account can't let me know that it failed the FIRST time?

I know the answer, of course. In both cases, they are just out to collect their little fees as frequently as possible. But it would be SO much easier to rage at them if I wasn't so busy raging at myself.

You infernal machine! Give me a beverage or give me my money back!
