---

Key looked frantically to his left; Jinki laid on the floor, blood oozing out from the corner of his mouth. “Jinki!” he squealed, tears escaping his eyes. The elder one stared up at Kibum, pulling the corner of his mouth into a small smile.

“Kibum…behind you.” He sputtered. Key turned his head, only to meet Minho’s furious eyes.

“M-minho, please. You don’t have to do this…” Key pleaded, but there was a crazed look in the younger one’s eyes. A look that told Kibum he wasn’t going to stop until he got what he wanted. And he wanted him dead.

Minho hovered over him, panting. His face was streaked with Jinki’s blood, and Key crawled back on the floor, before he collapsed on top of Jinki’s lifeless body. “Minho please don’t do this. You know we only did that because we loved you…”

Minho scoffed in response and lunged down; Key’s scream was heard, before the whole room exploded with red again.

--

Minho sobbed as the bullet was lodged in the wall, missing his head completely. He threw the gun across the room and held Taemin closer to him. His sobs died down eventually, and he let the silence engulf them. He continued holding Taemin in his arms, running his fingers through the copper tresses of the boy’s hair. He stared out the window; he could stay like that forever. After all, time was at his side. He closed his eyes and tried to let sleep befall him.

Tick Tock Tick Tock…

The annoying sound of the clock irritated him, but he tried to ignore it.

Tick Tock Tick Tock…

He held his breath, trying to control his temper. For some reason, ever since he drank Taemin’s blood, his anger kept surfacing up. He had not been able to keep his cool for more than five minutes. And the damn clock wasn’t helping at all.

Tick Tock Tick Tock…

“Shut up already.” Minho said, squeezing his eyelids even shut, as he tried to concentrate on blocking the sound out. But it wasn’t the sound of a clock that had been bothering him that whole time. He furrowed his eyebrows in concentration and squeezed his eyelids shut again.

Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.

Minho’s eyelids fluttered open; the sound was faint, and slow, but it was definitely there. It was most definitely there. He got up and placed Taemin on the chair, knelt in front of him, and pressed his ear against his chest.

Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.

Minho’s hands found their way excitedly towards Taemin’s face, searching for any signs of consciousness. “Taemin. Taemin. Taemin? Are you awake? Can you hear me? T-taemin, you’re alive.” He cried, burying his face in Taemin’s chest. He continually listened to the faint heartbeat. It was growing quieter, and slower. Minho knew that it was only a matter of time before his heart would completely stop beating. But what could he do?

He bit his lip and stared at the ground. The only way he could think of to revive him was that. But he had never done it before. He had seen Onew do it once, but it was all too quick, and too long ago for him to remember. But it was his only chance of reviving Taemin. And it was a risk he was willing to take.

“Taemin, I’m sorry, I didn’t want to do this but…” He sank his fangs into his neck again, and concentrated on injecting his blood and venom inside the boy’s bloodstream. He didn’t quite know if he was doing it right, all he knew was that he had to do it. After he felt like he’d injected him with a sufficient amount, he pulled away to catch his breath, and observed Taemin. Anytime them, he knew the boy was going to open his eyes and reanimate. He pushed his ear against his chest again; the heartbeat was slowly fading. It grew softer, and softer, until it completely stopped. Right then, was the moment that decided whether Minho had succeeded or not.

“Taemin?” He called out quietly, lacing their fingers together. “Taemin, are you there? Taemin, answer me, please…” his voice quivered, as he waited for any kind of response. Usually, patience would be something he had a lot of, but it seemed like that had changed as well. Minho tugged at the roots of his hair in frustration, as he pounded his fists repeatedly on the floor. His head rested on Taemin’s lap as he sobbed. It didn’t work; Taemin was truly gone then. With all the anger, and the frustration, he eventually ended up crying himself to sleep.

--

“Minho, why are you doing this? Just because of that…that filthy human?! He was bound to die in another seventy years or so anyway, so why do you care about him so much?!” Jinki questioned Minho, who was walking towards him angrily. Key whimpered behind Jinki as the eldest boldly protected his mate.

“Shut up!” Minho roared, clawing the side of Onew’s face. Key squealed in terror and clung tighter onto Onew’s back, but Jinki just stood there even as blood continued to drip down his face. He released a small scoff.

“Is that the best you can do?” He teased the younger one, and Minho growled, lifting him up before slamming him down on the ground. A sickening crack from both the floor and Jinki were heard, as the leader spewed blood out of his mouth. Minho squeezed Jinki’s face in between his thumb and middle finger, as he stared down at him.

“Is there anything else you were going to say?” Minho asked, tightening his grip on Jinki’s face until it almost cracked. Jinki’s face was twisted in both pain and sadness; he didn’t want to die. Tears streaked down his face, but he remained silent.

“Kibum, I love you.” He finally added after a while, as another sickening crack was heard when Minho slammed Jinki’s face against the floor. The leader cried out in pain as he writhed on the ground.

Kibum could do nothing but cower in the corner. He wanted to save Onew, he really did, but somehow his legs just couldn’t push himself forward. He knew he was next. But he would rather die than live without Onew.

Beside the entire racket, Taemin watched what was happening through squinted eyes. He laid on the bed, but he couldn’t move, or say anything. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he watched Minho spill Onew and Key’s blood everywhere, lathering it on the floor, the wall, the ceiling, and himself. He was confused. And scared. Why was he doing that? He closed his eyes to get rid of that horrible scene in front of him. The most he could do was to scream silently from his heart. “Minho, why are you doing this?”

--

Minho felt something wet and warm drip on his face. He knitted his eyebrows together in confusion. Another drop came. And another, and another. Minho pried his eyelids open and found a pair of light lavender eyes staring down at him. Whoever it was, they were crying.

“Minho, why did you do that?”

He knew that voice all too well; he sat up and observed the person sitting in front of him carefully. He reached his hand up to touch his face, tracing his thumb along his jaw, his lips, his nose, his cheek, his eyes; he ran his fingers through his hair, and closed his eyes.  It was him. It was really him. “Taemin…” he uttered softly.

Taemin broke down, sobbing, and Minho wrapped his arms around the younger one, trying to comfort him. “Shh, Taemin. Don’t cry. Why are you crying?”

“W-why did you…why did you k-kill them?” Taemin questioned, as he pushed him away. Minho held Taemin’s shoulder as he looked down, and shook.

“They forced me to hurt you, Taemin. I was trying to get revenge. My anger just took over and-I don’t know.” He replied, as he felt tears pooling in his eyes. Taemin was right; he had killed them for nothing.

“They didn’t force me. I did it willingly. I did it for you. They cared for you, Minho. But you still killed them. I was nothing but an insignificant pet! I was bound to die from the beginning! Why did you kill them like that?!” Taemin yelled, breaking down into more tears.

Minho himself was shaking, and his hands slid off slowly from Taemin’s shoulder. He knew he was right; he was right about everything. But he didn’t know how to answer his question. Beneath all the anger he had been feeling recently, there was another feeling he got every time he saw Taemin. But he didn’t know what it was. “I-I don’t know. Taemin, I don’t know.” He replied in between hiccupping and crying. Suddenly, everything just seemed so unfamiliar to him. “Please don’t be mad at me. I did it all for you, too.” He sobbed.

Minho felt two arms go around his neck, as Taemin buried his face in his head. “I know. I wish you hadn’t. You should’ve let me die. Why did you turn me into a vampire? Didn’t you tell me to run away before Onew or Key did this to me?” he asked, his voice and sobs muffled through Minho’s hair. Minho pulled the younger one into his lap, and wrapped his arms around his body, pulling them close together.

“I couldn’t bear to see you die. I’d rather kill myself than that. But I failed at that too, and when I realized that there was a chance for you to live, I took it. I’m sorry.” He whispered into Taemin’s ear, rubbing his back.

“Minho, I-thank you.” Taemin sniffled, pulling Minho closer to him. Minho had changed from how he was before, that’s true, but if there was one thing about him that remained the same, it was that he never stopped caring for Taemin. He had always been there for him, protecting him. And now he’d made it clear that he would protect him at all costs. Taemin felt terrible for selfishly thinking that Minho only killed Onew and Key because he changed. He did it because he cared. But Taemin still couldn’t help feeling that he was undeserving of all that.

They remained in that position. While Minho closed his eyes as he tried to make sense of things. He often heard people say “listen to your heart.” His had stopped beating a while ago, but it didn’t mean that it was nonexistent. It was in his chest that whole time, just waiting for Minho to realize that. Now he really needed to listen to what it was saying.

Saranghaeyo.

Minho’s eyelids flew open. He knew he loved Taemin as a pet. But now he knew it was more than that. Much more. He pushed Taemin away, just enough to look into his eyes. They’ve changed colour, but they were still the same despite that.  “T-taemin I-“ he started, but the words seemed stuck in his throat.

I love you.

“I-I-“

Taemin stopped him with his lips on his own. His mouth tasted sweet, with a bit of his blood still left over in there. Taemin pulled away too soon for Minho’s liking, and the older boy wanted more, but Taemin stopped him. “I still don’t really know how to react to all of this. But you’re all I have now. And we have all the time in the world. I want to spend the rest of it with you. I already decided that from the beginning.” Taemin closed his eyes, resting his forehead against Minho’s.

Minho closed his eyes and smiled, entwining their fingers together again. “I love you.” Suddenly, the words didn’t seem so hard to say anymore. Every nerve in his body was tingling with happiness, and he wished his heart would beat again, so that he could hear how happy it was. But as long as he had Taemin there, he knew he always will be.

“I love you too, Minho.”
