Kibum's heart leaped wildly around his chest, anxiety nibbling down the core of his existence. He pushed past the angry tree branches that stuck out everywhere and battled the unknown bugs that came to swarm them due to their lack of bug spray.
But he held that hand in his, oh that hand, as he bit down on his lips and searched the place thoroughly.
It was there. He could have sworn it was there.
"What are we doing in this....jungle, Kibum?" Jong Hyun snapped his head to the side, just in time to miss a branch that was aiming to hit his face.
"It was here yesterday, I swear. I found it under these...oh!" Kibum swiveled around as he felt something clank from underneath his feet.
He bent down and pulled at the overgrown vines, revealing some sort of rusty metal structure.
"Wow. It's...junk." Jong Hyun said uninterestedly and turned to leave. However, Kibum didn't let go.
"Don't you recognize it?"
Jong Hyun squinted and bent down beside Kibum. The rusted metal had chips of peeling turquoise paint, and was covered in some dents and bumps here and there.
There was something in his mind, faint and quiet, but it wasn't enough for him to recall anything. Kibum plastered a disappointed frown upon his face.
"You really don't?"
Jong Hyun shook his head and let go of Kibum's hand, sighing impatiently.
"Kibum, can we go now? I don't know what you're trying to show me and--" Jong Hyun stepped away, suddenly realizing that they stood in an elevated platform of some sort. Kibum grinned and sat down among the vines and leaves. He pushed himself slightly to the left, and the platform turned, emitting a shrill squeak of metal that has not been oiled in so many years.
Jong Hyun cringed at the sound, and Kibum stopped it immediately. "Oops." he covered his lips with his hand, trying to hide a devious smirk.
"Wait, this can't be..."
"It is." Kibum took Jong Hyun's hands once again and pulled him forward, ripping off more vines from the rusted metal platform they were sitting on. Jong Hyun helped, grabbing and throwing the vines aside like he was trying to uncover some sort of hidden treasure.
It took them a while, but both were pleased when the entire merry go round was finally free of vines. The base was crooked and rusty, the metal bars hanging out loosely. The structure was fragile, just like the memory of their childhood together.
"Do you remember now?" Kibum lifted Jong Hyun's hands as he played with the long and delicate fingers one by one. Jong Hyun nodded as he pulled Kibum close to him, as they both sat themselves down on the merry go round. The platform squeaked in protest, but the two remained in place. Returning back to the place where it all started, Kibum suddenly felt like a child again. Jong Hyun chuckled as the younger one nuzzled into his neck, and Kibum smiled as he felt the slight vibrations coming from the older one's throat.
"I remember." Jong Hyun smiled, running his hand through Kibum's hair, now tangled and messy. "This was the park we used to play in, right?"
"Yeah." Kibum smiled
"I remember that I turned you down here before." Jong Hyun laughed at the memory, and Kibum shook out a twig that got entangled in his hair somewhere.
"Mm. I bet you're glad you took me back." Kibum smirked as he picked out a yellow leaf that stuck itself on the side of Jong Hyun's head.
"Of course. Without you, I don't know what my life will be like." Jong Hyun tried to think about it, but was cut off from his train of thoughts when Kibum slapped the back of his head playfully.
"Pabo. You know it was hard trying to get your attention."
"Yeah, but I think putting your hair up in pigtails and wearing booty shorts worked." Jong Hyun laughed.
"But I can't believe you actually fell for it! I mean, was I really that feminine?"
"Well, you still kind of are," Jong Hyun grinned, and Kibum frowned upon him, which gave the blonde his cue to stop. "Besides, we were seven, and most girls were still flat chested, I couldn't tell the difference, Gwiboon."
Kibum laughed at the fake name he used. "Well you were mister "I only like girls", so I had to do something." Kibum rolled his eyes
"Well, I was young and stupid. But you must have liked me a lot back then, huh?" Jong Hyun asked teasingly.
"Back then? I still do. Don't tell me you didn't like me just as much."
"Well I did reject you, didn't I?"
Kibum puffed out his cheeks and placed his hands over his ears. "lalalalalalalalalalalalala~ I can't hear you~" he said stubbornly, and Jong Hyun laughed, before he planted a small kiss on the younger one's cheek.
"Of course I liked you! Geez..." Jong Hyun shook his head and smiled. "We wouldn't be together now if I didn't would we?"
"Hm, I guess not." Kibum grinned as he swung his legs off the platform and traveled his way through the thick masses of vines, leaves and branches. "I really don't get why this place has been abandoned." He frowned, eyes scanning the area. He spotted something, and started walking. Walking away from Jong Hyun.
"H-hey Kibum, where are you going?!" Jong Hyun followed suit, trying not to fall over and get eaten by the vines. Kibum stopped in front of what looked like the remains of a tire swing. The rope hung dully upon the steady tree branch, and the tire was flat, worn and rugged, laying peacefully against the overgrown grass on the ground. Kibum sighed and sat in the middle of the tire.
"I loved this swing." He stated bluntly, feeling the edges as if he was trying to see if any more memories from their childhood would come out from it.
"I know." Jong Hyun finally catches up, and he watched as Kibum sat there. He stuck his hands in his pockets and looked up at the sky. "Remember that time where I carried you here because the girls were making fun of you? You were crying, and I started pushing you on the swing to make you feel better."
"Yeah, I remember."
"Then this happened." Jong Hyun placed his hands on Kibum's shoulders and rested his head on top of the younger one's. Kibum closed his eyes and held tighter against the worn rubber of the tire, trying to control the fleeting butterflies in his stomach.
"Yeah. But something else happened." Kibum smiled, and Jong Hyun tried to hide his grin.
"Oh? And what might that be?"
"This." Kibum stated as he tilted his head up and met his lips with Jjong's. It was short, and sweet, and innocent; just like their first kiss. Jong Hyun rested his head against Kibum's and tangled their fingers together when he pulled away. The memories of when it all started came flooding back into his mind, and he never wanted them to stop.
"I remember."
