Allergies and japan

I'm waiting in the doctors office because I'm still sick and last night my throat was so swollen that only benedryl and crashing into a sleep stupor helped.

But when the doctor asked me 1) what I'm allergic to and 2) if I'm still taking my allegra it made me think about how to deal with my allergy problems when I go to japan. (anyone that knows me knows I'm planning a trip to see the cherry blossoms, and that I'd love to live there one day, if only for a year or two.)

One prominent thing: I've never had an allergy test...I don't know if I'm allergic to any medications nor do I know what I'm allergic to (pollen, dander, mold, etc.)

So I googled it, and apparently allergies are very very common in japan and many Japanese suffer from them. Perhaps from the cedar trees....but there's no way they can destroy such natural beauty. Trees are important to Japanese culture and has connections to the Shinto faith. I know when I see my huge tree in the backyard I smile...getting off track.

Anyway I need an allergy test soon I guess and I need to use the masks in japan - I think it's a very good idea if you must work or go to school while sick. I know when I worked at target while sick I felt horrible coughing and barely able to speak when dealing with guests at guest services. I think the masks are a super cool idea and I'd love to try it.

I'm not sure about steroid shots or creams I hear they can have bad side effects...hmmm I wonder.

Anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions? Ah I just want to go home and sleep, ja!
