so i got myself all inked up by this apprentice in decatur yesterday. mcflurrie was kind enough to drive me out there and serve as my scratching post for the occasion. i havent had company for a tattoo in several years. its a good thing i did though, because i dont know if it was the nerve endings in the area i chose to get the tattoo, or the staggering power of her unskilled hand, but this one hurt extremely bad for how small it was. we opted against the lunar moth cause it was too complicated, so instead i got the frog with the banjo pictured above. cept i had her draw in an actual banjo instead of that mandolin/guitar thing he has in the original image. i know it came from a rubber stamp or whatever, and that is generic as hell, but all i really needed was a symbol of the sadness i have been feeling as of late. and i have always loved frogs, so its also good to have some representation of that. my only problem with the finished product, and i knew there would be at least one since the tattoo was totally free, is this completely unnecessary bright blue shadow that the artist insisted on adding once the frog was done. i said i liked it the way it was, but she and her adviser decided it would add depth to the design and overruled me. it was very painful because the blue ink was not taking so well to my skin, and it looks pretty retarded. but im trying not to get too pissed off about that, and focus mostly on the image of the frog and the excitement of having a tattoo that i dont have to use a mirror to look at. this was my first one below the waist, and my first tattoo applied by a female. although i look forward to a time when i can afford photo realistic work again, at this point i will take whatever i can get.
