The Dave factor
Today, while preparing press packs at Arts and Crafts, I came to the realization that if you want to run an indie record store you should change your name to Dave. Out of the approximately 80 managers of indie record stores, 6 were named Dave. SIX!!!! Now, even considering the fact that record store management is a predominantly white male thing (only 1 female manager) I think that six is an extremely disproportionate number. Maybe it's the "average guy" factor that comes along with being named Dave that allows you to slowly assume greater and greater control without people noticing?

I could have made the most fucking excellent Hold Steady video in the world. I guess, technically, I still have 4 days, but I also have a lot to do in the next 4 days and don't have the time to cajole Jonathan into shooting a video, even though I have some spazz-tastic video ideas. Actually I have some pretty lame cliched ideas with a bunch of self-referential props, which would basically make it the douchie-est video ever, but...still. I coulda been a contender
