Survivors (2008) BBC
I pretty much mainlined seasons 1 & 2 of Survivors on Netflix the past week and I have to say, I'm seriously disappointed that it doesn't look like there'll be a S3 because Holy Cow! That was awesome!
It was what I wish The Walking Dead had been and if Survivors had included zombies in the tale? Total win all the way. In my mind's eye, the zombies are lurking around corners but our clever heroes always manage to elude them.
Let's talk about Tom Price because his character development is pretty much what kept me on the hook the whole time. Tom seems to be that archetype that I'm always attracted to in media, but not necessarily in real life because he's trouble with a capital T. A bona fied bad man that it would be wise to steer clear of, but in a crisis he's super helpful because he will kill that person that's a threat to you without blinking twice. That he struggles with balancing violence and caring for his adoptive family makes him more compelling and when he's looked to as a death-bringer as his function in the tribe (i.e. killing the guy that kidnapped Anya, ending the suffering of the guy hurt in the mine) it is clear he knows that his talent for extreme violence both bonds him to the others and will ultimately drive him away in the end. Death is his gift, not unlike Buffy's.
Seeing him in the cargo plane in the last shot killed me a little, but it was like we were working up to that all along. I'd like to think that he infiltrates the bad guys even as he brings the whole population down by being a plague carrier, causing them to suffer along with the rest of the world.
In other news, I joined another gym that's further from home, but a nicer one. So, I now belong to two gyms until I've used up the pre-paid trainer sessions at my old gym. I've got an appointment with someone new at a different location than I've been to before and I'm hoping that I'll soon lose a chin or two. Hopefully by summer I'll be buying some cute new clothes and feeling better about myself. Wish me luck!
