A Mom's Survey
1. How many children do you have/want?
I originally was fine with having only one, but never really said no to a second. Now that I have my two I am done 100%
2. Boys/Girls?
1 girl named Audrey will be 4 in July and a boy named Cole who is almost 6 months
3. Were your children planned?
Eh ... No. Audrey wasn't really a huge surprise as we weren't being 100 percent safe, but Cole was a total shock. I couldn't stop shaking after seeing the two pink lines on the pregnancy test and I would take a total of 4 tests before I would accept the fact that I was indeed pregnant.
4. Are your children named after anyone and what are their names?
First names, no, but Audrey's middle name is after my sister Stephanie who died in 2003. Cole's middle name, Shelton is my maiden name.
5.How old were your children/child when they were potty trained?
Well, as for Cole I doubt the majority of 6 month olds are potty trained. So, no he isn't even there yet. Audrey had the pee part down by 2 1/2, but continued to mess in her underwear until just under 3 years.
6.How long were you in labor?
Well, I ignorantly decided to be induced with Audrey not realizing all that the process entailed. I went in at 8 in the morning and had her at 10:23 that night (14 1/2 hours). With Cole my body was ready and so I arrived at the hospital at 4pm and popped him out at 10:21(6 1/2 hours).
7. Who was with you to watch the birth?
With Audrey - Sam. Because of the complications I had with Audrey they placed me in the OR for a C - Section. Only Sam was allowed in. At the last minute though I was able to push her out.
Cole - Sam and my sister Jeannette. I'm sure Jeannette will never forget all the amniotic fluid she got soaked with.
8. Who was the first to hold your child?
I suppose the doctors and nurses. Audrey had breathing problems so they whisked her away. With Cole I just asked them to clean him up before I held him. Sue me ... I like a clean baby.
9. Did you have help when you came home from the hospital?
With Audrey my whole family came. It was a little cramped in the one bedroom apartment we lived in at the time. Looking back on that I think the reason everyone came was really part of the healing process after my sister's death. Otherwise I would have said No to so many people and in fact I did say No to so many people with my second birth. With Cole I had the help of Jeannette before and during the birth and my Mom for 2 weeks post partum.
10. Did you stay up all night to watch them sleep/breathe?
No, I stayed up all night nursing. You think I would willingly stay up just to watch my baby sleep?!
11. Where were your children born?
Audrey - St. Anne's Toledo, Ohio
Cole - Toledo Hospital in ... Toledo Ohio
12. Who do your children look like?
Audrey is a hybrid of Sam's mom and me ... Cole well, I get told that he looks like Sam, but also my Dad as well
