You Remind Me ...
Day 04 - A song that reminds you of someone
I didn't post my song choice for Day 4 of the meme last night, because I honestly couldn't think of one song that reminded me of someone ... not in a way that meant anything special. Garbage's album 2.0 reminds me of my sister Stephanie, because we played that thing out after I bought it and there were also the countless Spice Girl songs we lip synced to on video camera for sheer silly girl fun, but 'Wannabe' doesn't necessarily make me think of Steph. It wasn't until I read ohyes_that_girl 's choice of song today that I decided to choose the song Sam and I consider to be "our" song, because Sam was my first love and whenever I hear this song it does make me think of him and of when we first started dating.
I met Sam a few weeks before Spring Break in 2000 and hadn't even made it official with him before I left for a week in Indiana with my best friend at the time Heather Shepherd. In his car I left a mix tape ... an actual mix tape (remember those?) of songs I had collected from my roommates CDs. I had black roommates at the time, so a lot of the music was Missy Elliot, Destiny's Child and I think Eve. Yet, there was one song that was very different from the rest - The Thompson Twins 'Hold me Now'. I had taken it from 'The Wedding Singer' soundtrack and when I called Sam while I was away he told me he kept listening to that song, because it made him think of me. This eventually went on to become "our" song and I will often hear it being played over the speakers of Old Navy (because the store's playlist constantly pukes 'The Greatest Hits of the 80s) and yes, it does remind me of my first year together with Sam.
