Okay, so I thought it was about time to write up a little note about how I feel about the new 'Doctor Who' season 5, 1 whatever they are calling it. Hey, it's the one with the new theme song that I kinda don't like and the doctor who wears a bow tie. I watched the fist episode again tonight with Sam (first time was while tweeting w/
sugarrtown ) and so, I think I have finally been able to form an opinion.
I'm not going to bother with a cut, because the first episode has been out awhile now. Don't wanna read, just skip.
I avoided watching the last David Tennant 'Doctor Who' special for a long time after it aired. It was hard for me to accept change, especially since I fell in love with David's doctor so thoroughly. But, I finally did and 2 episodes into the airing of the newest season I decided it was time to move on. So, I watched it and was a bit confused most of the time, but I knew one thing. I instantly liked Amelia Pond - the new companion. Matt Smith ... well, he's gonna take some time to get used to. He's got David's whole fast paced talking, joking, smartypants style, but what it all comes down to is that this guy is different.
The tone of the show seems to have shifted a bit with the new producer. I mentioned the different opening, but there is also an element of it being more X-Files-ish this time around. The first episode reminded me of the tone of the season 3 episode 'Blink' ... just a bit creepy. Hopefully there will be no mysterious smoking man later on in the season who joins the cast. lol
So, to sum up. I like it. I really do. It's not the same, but I mourned Christopher when he left after only one season. David did 3 season, so my mourning time will probably take a little longer. I have no doubt though that I will be able to move on. Dare I say it ... I kind of even like Matt Smith ... just a little.
