Halloween Love

Halloween.

My favorite holiday.

Not the typical response, I'm sure. Most would choose Christmas as the big event they look forward to each year, but mine has always been the one where I am allowed to let my inner actress shine. I can remember being as young as 15 and thinking months in advance of the costume I would don. I would never outright buy a costume from a store. Instead I would start collecting the clothing throughout the year until the complete outfit came together on the night of October 31st. I liked to choose characters to impersonate that not everyone would guess at first glance. I suppose the costume I am most proud of is the one I created when I was 19. That year I do believe only 2 people were able to deduce who I had costumed myself as.

If you can remember who MTV's 'Daria' was then imagine me as her.

Others I am proud of: Wednesday Addams and Princess Diana then of course, Posh Spice although that costume was not too difficult to pull off - wear a short black skirt and don't smile.

As I have gotten older and entered a relationship with someone who is less enthusiastic about Halloween, the holiday has gone either uncelebrated by me or I have traveled down the safe route by dressing Goth. Goth being safe in the sense that most everyone owns a black outfit.

One year I do believe I had an ingenious idea to dress myself as Courtney Love and have Sam clothe himself as her immortalized dead husband. That idea did not fly for as I have mentioned my husband has no interest in playing dress up with me.

Last year I was fortunate enough to go away with a friend for Halloween weekend. I was not very original with my costume choice though. Having long curly locks for the first time in my life I decided to show my love for the 'Harry Potter' series by dressing as the long and curly haired witch from Hogwarts. I did choose the sexy form of the Hermione costume as I figured at 26 my age would eventually keep me from pulling off a short and tight outfit without looking pathetic, so I best play sexy while I was still able.

This year the Halloween focus was on my daughter and I assume Cole when he is old enough will also join in the Halloween spirit. I will pass all my Halloween passion onto them and hopefully they too will love the holiday as much as their Mommy! So, far Audrey has dressed as a cheerleader (my Mom bought the costume, not my idea) in 2005, a pumpkin last year and this year she was a bee.

Happy Halloween!
