While at the library the other day I spied a book from my childhood while scouring the shelves of the children section -
I just had to check it out and when I brought it home I instantly sat down to read. The storyline is a little too older for Audrey, but I read it to her anyway. I love that I can sit down and read her books from my own childhood. Growing up I simply loved fairytales and still do to this day.
I was though a bit curious about the origins of this story. It read a lot like Cinderella, but not exactly the same. Come to find out when I pulled down my Fables of the World book that 'Princess Furball' is actually a retelling of 'A Thousand Furs'. What I found really shocking though was that the original version had molestation themes in it. A father wants to marry his daughter and so, she runs away. Yikes!
I remember when I reread 'The Little Mermaid' a few months back and posted in here about how violent the actual story is. I tell you. The original fairytales are not for little kids.
