Sherlock Season 2 Episode 3:
So! I finally made myself watch this! Having read all of the spoilers in the world beforehand did pretty much dull the experience for me, but tbh sometimes that's better for me. (I.e. when I watched the Van Gogh Doctor Who episode I just bawled and bawled and was unconsolable for literally hours).
I really did like this episode. It was well-plotted and the ending was wtf enough to get an actual explosion of fandom lunacy afterwards. I did, however, find Mycroft's character a little bit problematic. Calling that we'll get some sort of backstory "why Sherlock and Mycroft Don't Play Well" thing in season 3. I did however, also find it a bit wtf that Sherlock would use Mycroft for something (more) trival like access to a military base in episode 2, but didn't even consider getting his help in episode 3. But anyway.
I loved the little details like Sherlock folding his collar down when told not to be himself when he goes to interview the children. There were some truly beautiful shots in it too.
As for the ending, I'm fairly well content to accept the general concensus that Sherlock jumped, landed in the truck, chucked a body out for the SPLAT bit, removed it and bloodied up/stopped heartbeat with the ball, etc. Appart from anything else, it also then ties into The Scandal in Belgravia, where already-dead bodies are supposed to convince people that they'd been successfully killed in another incident. Still haven't figured out how The Hound of Baskerville ties into the finale, other than to show that Sherlock does actually think of John as a friend. Although, they weren't 100% certain that there'd be no long term effects from the gas, so maybe that's a link? Idk. Needs re-watching.
I really do not understand where most of fandom has gotten this "Moriarty has a Sherlock mask for torturing children" thing from. Er so pretty sure there are other ways of getting children traumatised.
I did kind of think the casting of the actress who plays Jen in The I.T Crowd as the journalist was a stroke of brilliance.
